Good points: The seller describes this latch as "heavy duty", an overused term for products, in my opinion. However, this product is truly heavy duty. All main components of the latch are made out of stout, thick steel. It certainly appears quite durable. It shows an excellent level of craftsmanship. There are no sharp edges. The holes for the mounting screws are aligned and uniform. Care has been taken to made sure the welds are clean, uniform, and essentially almost all slag and splatter has been removed. The painted finish is applied well with no spots of no paint or a low amount of paint. It seems to be powder coated but I am not sure of that. The bars which hold the latch closed are easy to use (no binding) and keep the latch secure. I have a rural property with lots of tube steel gates which are now pushing nearly 40 years in age. Some of the gate latches have seen a better day. This latch has done an excellent job of retiring one of those old soldiers. It is very easy to install. The option of being able to secure the latch with a padlock is very nice and gives me peace of mind the gates will stay closed while I am away from the ranch.Weak points (sort of): The screws provided are of a good diameter but less than 2 inches inches in length. Because the gates are sometimes slammed shut and some are wide and heavy, I used longer screws to keep the latch securely in place for the long term. This is probably over engineering on my part. Also, there is no provision (meaning a hole) to lift the latching arms in the open position and lock them in that open position. Curing those two situations would deserve an upgrade to 5 stars.Point of clarification: The seller describes this latch as "self-locking." It is not. It self latches, but in that position it is not locked because anyone can open the latch.Bad points: None.A very good buy.

Very nicely constructed material, heavy duty. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for my already established gate because I failed to check the necessary space needed between the gate and post. I’m keeping it to use on future gate installations. I would recommend.

Easy solution for a latch that has perpendicular surface to mount to. It worked easy in my case just had to drill some holes and wow. Will be buying more.
