I love this 2-way gate latch design. It's greatly improved and streamlined the process of getting into and out of my cattle yard. The old latch only went one way, which most of the time wasn't a huge deal. However, there are many times I wanted the gate to open inward, rather than out, and it just wasn't possible with my old setup. Not only is it possible now, but I merely have to toggle the lever and go which ever way I desire, with ease. Installing this gate latch was super easy, only requiring the removal of my old latch, pre-drilling a couple of holes to avoid cracking the post, and driving in the new lag screws. To make my life a bit easier, I did use 20V tools to do the work, as I can't stand hand-cranking lag bolts into hard wood. My impact wrench set to hammer drill mode, made quick work of the bolts. As long as the finish holds up (and it does appear to be good quality), then I should get many years of use out of this product, as the general build quality seems quite durable. I mention the finish holding up, primarily because if it doesn't, then the high humidity of where I live in OH, tends to destroy most anything steel in short order. We'll see...and if this item ever fails me or deteriorates prematurely, I'll update this post accordingly. Until then, recommended, especially at this price point.

I picked up this gate latch for one very important reason: our horses have apparently earned advanced degrees in escape artistry.Over the years, these curious four-legged troublemakers have managed to figure out nearly every gate latch we've tried. For animals without opposable thumbs, their problem-solving abilities are both impressive and incredibly frustrating. More than once we've looked out the window only to discover our "secure" horses happily exploring areas they absolutely should not have been able to access.Until now, the only truly effective solution was a chain and padlock. While that worked, dealing with a chain and lock while carrying a 50-pound bag of feed in the rain was far from convenient.This latch has been a game changer.Build Quality: The construction feels solid and heavy-duty.
