Works very well.
Worked great for removing some corroded/stripped 6mm exhaust manifold studs from a 30 year old Kubota diesel. Saved a lot of disassembly which would have been required had I used other style extration tools I already had. No wear or damage to the tool after this one use. I had previously purchased a 3/8" drive tool of the same design but from another brand to remove these studs that said it would do 6mm to 12mm studs; however, it wouldn't clamp down small enough to grip my studs. This 1/4" drive version was perfect. If I had had known that from the beginning I would've purchased both sizes from this brand and saved a few bucks as opposed to getting them separately.

There are numerous types and categories of stuck stud / broken bolt extractors. Of the "external" extractors (the various kinds that can fit over & grab onto an exposed rounded over head or an exposed nub of broken bolt) this type is a very useful one to have -- better than the "external spiral" type in most cases. This type uses a grippy adjustable chuck (kind of like on a battery-operated drill -- not like the hex chuck on an impact driver) that is left-hand-threaded, so as you turn the whole thing counter-clockwise, it bites down harder on the stud or broken bolt to maintain grip as it unscrews it. You can use the ratchet from your socket set to drive this thing from its internal square drive hole, or use a standard wrench to drive it from the flats milled around the outside of the square drive hole.This particular make and model seems like a well-made example of the type -- it was durable, easy to operate, and got a good grip to help unscrew the stud I was trying to extract (which had a rounded-over e-torx head that would no longer take a socket head). The price was also right. Very happy with this purchase.One drawback is the size - if you are working in confined clearances, you might not be able to fit the tool into the space between the broken stud and whatever is opposite it in order to mount it over the stud. You need several inches of clear approach space above the stud or bolt in order to get this tool in place. It is also a bit heavy, but in a good (durable) way.If you are working on cars or other machinery where you might need to deal with broken or rounded bolts / studs, it is a good idea to have a variety of stud and bolt extractors available -- this type, as well as the roller-cam type, the off-center cam type, the external spiral type (probably the least effective, but cheap and very low profile for tight spaces), and some internal types like a reverse-fluted extractor which drills into the center of the broken fastener in reverse, digging into the center of the material to get a grip while unscrewing it.
Great tool use it to pull out a broken thermostat housing stud well worth the $20

Overall function is good. However, build quality is, as most items made over-seas, not great; therefore, works great for the occasional extraction. Doubt it will go the mile under constant use.
