I love to keep a set of ratchet straps in my car just in case I buy something that needs to be strapped to the roof rack. With traditional ratchet straps they end up in a tangled mass in the back of my car. Another frustration with traditional ratchet straps is that I have about a 50% success rate with threading the end through the ratchet. I feel like half the time I do it wrong and get in my own way as I'm trying to tighten them down. This set of retractable ratchet straps solves that problem. I cannot mess it up! The instructions for how to release the ratchet are easy to follow along. Do you simply open the ratchet and all the way and pull the release like you would with a traditional set. The good news is, you don't need to use two hands to release from either side. These are well made and appear durable. I love that they come in their own zippered carrying case. They are very strong and will be versatile for tying down lumber, doors, kayaks and anything else I decided to throw on top of my car. They are more expensive than traditional ratchet straps but saving on the frustration of trying to make a traditional strap work makes these very good value for me.

I always carry ratcheting tie-down straps in my pickup but no matter how careful I am when storing them, they inevitably end up needing to be untangled the next time I need to use them. So I was really intrigued to see how these retractable straps would work...and turns out they're great!First time I used them, it took a few minutes to figure out how the retractable reel works but from that point on, they have been easy to use and the locking end clips are a huge improvement over the open hook that you see on most other tie-down straps.They're also really easy to store when done. I simply retract the slack, stick them back in the provided storage bag and slip them into the storage bay under my truck's backseat. And when I pull them out, they're ready to go...no untangling needed.They're priced somewhat fairly considering they're retractable and 12 feet in length...longer than many other similar retractable tie-downs I've seen. I found that these straps (1800LB Retractable Ratchet Straps with Soft Loops,2 Pack) are very easy to use with the spring retraction and tension while hooking up to my tie-downs. These also have the rubber coated hooks so your load or vehicle are not damaged and the snaps keep the hook connected to your tiedown while securing your load. Nothing worse than hooking up the first end of your strap and moving to hook the other second end only to find that the first hook fell off.The thickness of the strap seems to be pretty standard for this WLL (working load limit) of 600 pounds and are well purposed for most objects up to 600 pounds. I did find that the 1800 pound break strength while accurate is a little deceiving to the person that doesn’t understand the difference between WWL and breaking strength. The straps are soft and pliable but my experience with similar straps has been that these would not hold up to extended periods of exposure to the weather; use them and store them out of the weather.The ratchet straps have a quality look and feel to them and are only slightly more cumbersome than a standard ratchet strap of this WLL without the great features that these have.To me they are a great value at this price point for all the features that are included with these tie down straps and the included storage case and bag.
