This stud finder is very functional and easy to use. The accuracy is great as long as you know what you're looking for, this just has two strong magnets that will lead you to locate any existing screws or nails holding your drywall to the stud in a home with wooden studs. I cannot speak for functionality of this finder in an environment with metal studs. It's compact and a good value for its price.

This stud finder is made of heavy duty blue steel with two powerful magnets. No batteries needed, just slide it across the wall until it finds metal beneath the wall and it adheres strongly. It's pretty simple to use and when it finds the screws holding wall board to a wooden stud it grips and holds on. Since it works as intended I'm giving it five stars.However, that being said, these type of stud finders have limitations. For instance, the walls in my house are textured. Apparently this coating is thick enough that this stud finder either couldn't find any studs or I don't have any and I'm not sure what's holding up my house. Even if you don't have a thick coating on your walls you may slide this stud finder past an area of the stud where the screws are either higher or lower than the area you're searching and the stud finder doesn't find them. So you're forced to not only search horizontally but vertically as well. You could spend a lot of time looking for someplace to hang that painting or secure that shelf bracket. So I'll probably continue to use my electric stud finder which not only finds studs by only having to searching horizontally but even marks the center.However, as I said, this stud finder does work as intended it's just an inherent problem with this type of stud finder. I'll keep this thing anyway because it is a powerful magnet and magnets always come in handy in the shop.

Any wise consumer should follow a similar path, as I quite frankly have yet to note any other organized online form of reviews about any given product as Amazon can provide.So, the result of all the preceding explanatory dialogue is that my 'modus operandi' (typically referred to as an 'M.O.') in all my reviews is to try to impart as much information about any respective product I am targeting in an express effort to enlighten any potential buyer - - either for the 'better' or 'worse', in an attempt to make the ultimate buying process selection the most informative one possible.This now leads me to the actual purpose of this article. This particular item currently under my review, appears as being probably the most basic, simple form of any product I've ever reviewed. When you take in its diminutive dimensions (it has the overall thickness and geometric size of an oversized credit card), and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less...highly easy to test and write a subsequent review.Embedded in the aforementioned 'compact' card-like presentation, are two, equally small round, flat magnets. The concept is so simple, we all know that any magnetic field attracts to any non-ferrous metal, such as iron/steel nail fasteners. Accordingly, given this product is ostensibly produced for mostly wooden types of construction (i.e. house wall construction), in order to 'activate it', one only has to swipe it along any smooth wood or drywall surface in order to get a 'positive hit' as to where the targeted strong, hidden, supporting wooden 'wall stud' is specifically located (usually behind the opaque drywall). In fact, I've found these two little magnets to be strong enough, on many occasions when a wall has minimal texture and no thick coats of paint, to even manage to affix itself alone while I let it go from my hand holding contact.So, that's pretty much all there is to it. Just a non-battery (most other much more costly wall stud-finders on the market are electronically-driven), simple device that reliably and capably 'gets the job done' by means of just reaching into a user's pocket, or tool pouch, for immediate access at all times. No fumbling to check the battery status, or any other such fancy accoutrement to deal with. This type of simple end result, should after all, be the basic objective of any wall stud finding device.This has proven to be a great addition to many of my around the house DIY projects, and I wholeheartedly award it a top 5 stars' rating.

After struggling mercilessly with a laser stud finder, going old school with magnets is a surprising relief. This too is not perfect, in that the very strong magnets find anything metal behind the wall, including metal related to window frames, tools left behind the drywall, etc. I'm less confident that I'm finding studs buried in beams because I'm not finding them where I expect them to be, distanced as we know them to be, but the magnets are undeniably strong, exposed, and sized like a nickel on the backside.I suspended the stud finder on a spot it clung to for a couple of days, didn't budge. But I don't believe that was evidence of a nailhead. So I would say this magnetic finder, which is slim and light and fits in any pocket, adds a datapoint to the mix, which can be helpful with the laser stud finder is behaving like George Costanza, trying to find his car in a parking lot at the mall.I also think that having a card with strong magnets on it is going to come in handy for lots of unexpected things. Picking up small parts you can't even see in the carpet or landscaping, for example. Testing for metal in places you're unsure of the substrate. I think it's just a good useful tool and takes up so little space, why not?

This is a piece of anodized aluminum in the shape which approximate a 2x4 with its height and width and embedded with two very strong magnets. The way which it find stud is by indirectly inferring that if the magnet attach itself to something ferrous underneath the dry wall, they must be dry wall screws and they must be screwed in dead center of the stud behind the dry wall. Obviously, there are issues with that but it succeeds more often than not and it will never run out of battery as something that applies physics and science to actually locate the wooden studs. Another issue is you could easily miss a stud if you happen over the stud where there are gaps of dry wall screws. But again, it probably works often enough that these outlier situations are just that. The markings on the device is Silke’s screened on. It wont be as durable as if they were laser engraved so treat it with care lest the silk screen scrape off. But as the silkscreening appear primarily decorative, it’s probably not a big issue. With the advantage over battery powered device, this stud finder will be inexpensive to operate and will work any time, as long as ferrous dry wall screws are used to hold the dry wall on the studs. This item is packaged in a clear plasti ziplock bag with the white FBA product identification barcode sticker label affixed to the bag. Z inside the bag is a sealed white paper envelope,. Inside the white paper envelope is a small bubble pack holding the stud inference tool. The machined and anodized blue aluminum looks great. As long as there are ferrous drywall screws used to fasten your drywall to your studs, this tool will prove itself invaluable quickly. Easy to use, easy to maintain, this tool will serve you well lover a long time. Five stars!

I've always used an electronic stud finder and stayed away from these magnet types. But this is so much better than I thought it would be. Especially after I opened the package.From the weight of the package, I thought there must have been two of them because it was so much heavier than I thought it would be. When I opened it and found only one, I thought, "There's no way this wouldn't fall off of the wall". But lo and behold, when it found a drywall nail, it yanked almost out of my hand and stayed on the wall tight. There are two very strong magnets - much stronger than you'd think. Either the top or bottom one will find the nail/screw. You have to drag it back-and-forth and up-and-down along the area where you think the stud will be. But when it finds a screw/nail, it holds on tight.By the way, the photos for the listing were probably created with AI and make it look soooo much bigger than it actually is.The reveal measurements on the front refer to the reveal on the back - the difference between the edge of the front plate, and the edge of the battery compartment. It took me a minute to figure that out.The build quality is high. The metal material is solid and the magnet are very strong. My only complaint is that I wish the surface that touched the wall had some sort of cushion as the metal can scratch the paint while you're dragging it along the wall, if you're not careful.
