This hammer is advertised for forging and blacksmithing; however, a fiberglass handle does not absorb shock like wood and is not ideal around extreme heat as it will melt.I picked this up for the hammer head, so for my use, I feel like it was a good value for the weight of the steel. It seems to be good quality and durable enough for me to dress into a cross peen rounding hammer.So far, I'm happy with it, and it was much less expensive than a 3lb proper blacksmith hammer.

I carry both a regular hammer and also a larger 3 lb hammer with me to all my handyman jobs. There are just so many things that need a bit more than what a regular hammer can provide. Whether it is pounding in stakes, breaking up concrete, breaking loose a nut with a socket wrench, or demolition work, this hammer is perfect. I replace many windows and having to chisel out loose concrete around bricked-in windows takes a 3 lb hammer also. The forged steel head is highly durable and withstands heavy impacts against stone or metal chisels without chipping. The fiberglass handle feels sturdy and successfully dampens the shock before it reaches your hand. The rubberized non-slip grip keeps the tool securely in your hand even when your palms are sweaty from hard labor. I do not use the wedge end for many items, but it is nice to have that option for more specialized prying or shaping tasks. The overall cost represents a great price for all that it offers in terms of build quality and utility. Just the right size and versatility.

Since I've had it, I've used it to drive metal stakes in the ground and help demo a friends bathroom. Right out of the box, the weight distribution felt great in my hand. This is one heavy chunk of steel. The handle is fiberglass, and the rubber grip does an excellent job of reducing vibration, making it much more comfortable to use during extended jobs.The hammer features a nicely faceted striking face along with a deep black phosphate coating that not only looks good but also held up well during use.I put it to work as soon as it arrived. I had several tons of coquina rock that needed to be broken down into manageable pieces. This was exactly the right tool for the job. In about 18 minutes, I had roughly three tons of rock split into pieces averaging around five pounds each. The hammer never felt like it was struggling, and the finish still looked great afterward with virtually no noticeable scratches or wear.It's also a comfortable hammer to swing. I'm not a professional, but I've used plenty of sledgehammers over the years for demolition and framing projects. This is easily one of the nicest quality hammers I've owned, and it's a significant step up from the inexpensive sledge I had been using.To top it off, it was priced well below comparable models at my local Home Depot, making it an even better value. For anyone looking for a durable, well-built sledgehammer that can handle serious work, this one has been an excellent purchase. Your mileage may vary, but I'd definitely buy it again.
