These foam backer rods are useful, lightweight, and easy to work with. The 1 inch size is great for filling larger gaps before applying caulk or sealant, and the foam compresses enough to fit securely into uneven spaces. They are especially helpful for home repair projects around walls, windows, concrete, and joints.I like that the pack includes plenty of pieces, so there is enough for multiple repair jobs. These are SOOOO useful. My favorite is draft stopping. I've stuffed them all in around a drafty door frame and then taped over it (nice clean look) and they haven't moved at all. They filled in easily, expanding back into the space after I smooshed and smashed them into the tiny uneven crevasses. There are SO MANY uses for these little rods. They're a good size, too. It's so easy to stop all the drafts in my 1900s house with these handy cheap rods.

I used this foam backer rod on a fieldstone foundation where several areas were losing concrete. It responds well to pressure, inserts easily into the cracks, and stays in place effectively. Time will tell how well it holds up to weather exposure, but so far I am very satisfied with the application. Overall, it’s a good product and a good value.

I don’t know what happened, but at some point I bought 1-inch foam backer rod and now I’m reviewing it like this was always part of my personality. If you’re here because you have gaps/cracks to fill and you’re trying to not dump an entire tube of sealant into the void, this stuff is genuinely useful.This pack comes with 20 pieces (about 1 inch x 15.74 inches each). The foam is closed-cell, so it’s flexible and compressible, but not spongy in a gross, absorb-everything way. It’s easy to work with: I cleaned the area, pressed it into the gap, and trimmed to length with scissors. It seats well and stays put, which is exactly what you want before sealing.Big wins for me:Fits irregular gaps better than I expected (squishes in, then holds shape)Helps use less sealant (my wallet and my caulk gun hand both approve)Works for a bunch of places: around windows/doors, small wall/concrete cracks, random “why is there a draft here?” spotsAlso, the “wide application” list is hilarious (pet ear protection??), but for normal home use—gap filling and sealing prep—it does the job really well.5 stars. Strange purchase, excellent outcome. My house is slightly less drafty and I feel oddly accomplished.

U0U's dense foam rods are quite firm while still pliable and of coparatively good quality. Their Amazon listing identifies numerous uses for them. I ordered them for another purpose however. If you've ever ordered the stretchy jacquard chair slip covers you've seen the slender foam rods shipped with the covers. Their rods are meant to tuck down into the gaps between the chair back and arms and the seats. They're supposed to help keep the fitted look of the cover by preventing the cover from pulling out of the gap. In my experience they're too narrow and delicate accomplish that. I ordered these larger UOU foam rods expecting that they will be a tighter fit in the gaps and help prevent the cover from being pulled out. Photo 4 shows the difference between these 1" dense foam rods and the 1/2" weak foam rods that came with the covers. Only time will tell if they permanently prevent the cover from being unintentionally pulled from the gaps. But being twice the size and more firm it should be twice as difficult for the covers to be tugged loose from the gaps. My other use for these rods is to put in open gaps without backing. These rods fit tightly in gaps less than 1" and prevent the caulk in front from spilling into the void of a backless gap.
