We ordered this kit because we are trying to get our house ready for sale and need to replace a few of the doors. This kit has everything we need, and great for a typical DIYer to do some door installation/repair. What stood out to me most was that it was aluminum rather than plastic, so it felt heavy and like it would hold up to some serious use. So many tools have reverted to being plastic and they just don’t last. So I appreciate the fact that this tool is aluminum and I know it will get us through all the door replacements we have impending in our home.

I ordered this because I needed to replace a couple of doors in my house. Last time I replaced a door, the hardest part was getting the hinges chiseled out to the proper depth. I had to trace and hand chisel which was time consuming and frustrating. Using the right tool for the job usually makes things go so much smoother so I wanted to give this a try.It's a nice kit that includes everything you need - the jig, driver bits, a self-centering drill bit, chisel, and router bit. The jig is made of aluminum and appears very sturdy compared to most plastic tools out there. The markings are very clear and it is easy to set. Attaching to the door was easy, the clamps have thin rubber coating, so they didn't mar the door and held really well without moving at all. I like that the jig has a depth gauge built into it so it was easy to set the router bit depth. This jig made things go smooth and once I got the hang of using it, the remaining hinges went so much quicker. All in all, I'm glad I got this jig. I'll pack it back up in the box it came in so I have it ready to go for the next set of doors that need replacing.

Hinge jigs come in many different flavors. This one is a decent example, and is a good value for what you get. It will accommodate 2.5 to 5" hinges through various adjustments to sliding pieces. Made of aluminum, it is sure to be durable.It is ONLY for the door side of the hinge inset. It simply will not adapt to jig the inset on the jamb as some models do. It comes with a couple of screwdriver bits, which you probably already have - but it also comes with the the appropriate router bit for using the jig properly, as well as a very useful self-centering drill bit for better hole placement. Nice instructions included for those inexperienced in the use of a hinge jig.Bottom line: All-in-all, a nice jig for the price.

This hinge jig is sweet. It is always a concern ordering a jig if it's going to be quality and if it's going to function in a way that makes sense to use it does it save me time and it effort? Well this product met both of those needs. It's made out of a brushed red aluminum not only giving it a sleek look but a sturdy piece of hardware with a light weight class. It comes with bits for a router and Philips and flat, as well as a Alan wrench, and little wood chisel if needed. It had clear easy to follow instructions on the SOP to use it. And for all intents and purposes it works like a charm. It more than adequately satisfied all my criteria for a quality jig.

I don't trust the cut glove that is in here, that seems like an unnecessary inclusion. The marking knife however is nice. This is a nice solid tool, the metal is sturdy. The directions are lacking and I'm going to have to do some research to figure out how to route both sides of the square corner and 1/4 radius corner hinges but the 5/8 radius makes sense. Now I just need to find myself a nice tool made this well for mortising the strike plates.

So this review is based on examination.I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this jig kit given the price point. The machining and finishing of the jig are excellent.For the jig itself, it is adjustable for different sizes of hinges typically used on doors. There are sections for 5/8 and 1/4 radius hinges. I was initially concerned about depth of cut and whether the ball bearing on the router bit would stay in contact with the jig. After further examination, I found that the inside of the jig has spacer blocks that will keep the template plate about 1/2 in away from the edge of the door. (You can see them under the holding screws in the bottom photo.) The jig also includes two guides for setting the router bit depth for thin or thick hinges (item 4 in instructions).The kit includes a number of accessories, including a router bit with ball-bearing guide, a small chisel (for square hinges), a self-centering pilot drill, two driver bits (One double phillips, one phillips/straight), two hex wrenches, and a pair of gloves (?). One hex wrench fits the collar on the router bit, the other is slightly undersized for the setscrew in the self-centering drill bit. (I'll overlook this for stars given the overall quality.)I think this kit is an excellent value at less than $30. I looked at a home center website and saw items with similar capability but made out of plastic for more than this.
