I didn't buy this for a chicken coop—I bought it to enclose a garden bed, and it works great for that purpose. The 1/2-inch mesh is sturdy and easy enough to work with, and the 100-foot roll gives you plenty of material for a larger project. Of course I had to make "rows" for it to be tall enough to work for a raised garden bed, but it work perfectly for me.I actually overlapped some of the mesh to make the openings even smaller where I wanted extra protection. That's one of the things I like about using a product like this: you can adapt it to whatever project you're working on.It was also on sale and ended up being cheaper than some of the mesh products specifically marketed for gardens, so why pay more for a label? 😂 I'm the queen of repurposing things, and this was a great find. I'm sure it would work perfectly well for a chicken coop too, but for me, it's doing an excellent job as garden fencing.

This hardware cloth feels sturdy and much more substantial than the thinner wire mesh I have used before. The 1/2 inch openings are small enough to make it useful for keeping out smaller animals while still allowing plenty of airflow and visibility.The black coating gives it a cleaner finished look than plain galvanized wire, especially if you are using it somewhere visible like a garden, animal enclosure, or around the house. It is flexible enough to shape and cut for different projects, but still feels rigid once it is secured in place.The 100 foot roll gives you a lot to work with, so it is especially useful for larger projects. Overall, this is a solid choice if you want heavier-duty mesh that feels like it will hold up well outdoors.

Talk about unconventional use; we got this as support lining for a garden pond to help keep the concrete from cracking!Price was decent, and it doesn't seem cheap in any way but this is only the second time on my life that I used a similar product, so who am I to judge. I'm kind of assuming that if you string it up between poles it will keep the chickens out unless they carry around plasma cutters when you're not watching... 🤣

Our hens needed a protected run because we haven't had a chance to sell off the roosters and they are ganging up on the hens. We used a frame from an old shelter, with this hardware cloth along the bottom and heavy plastic mesh from a 7x100' roll to enclose the rest. A tarp closes the top for shade and protection from the weather. one end is closed by a kennel panel with a gate. Very simple and affective. The black color of the hardware cloth and mesh make them almost invisible. Our dog ran full speed into the hardware cloth as we sere putting it together. It stretched the fabric out a little but didn't break it. So far it's working out great. The metal hardware cloth is a lot more resistant to chewing rodents and predators than the plastic so having it around the bottom really helps keep the chickens secure.

Just the right gauge for flexibility and strength. I'm in that year where old fencing is old enough to be disregarded by curious critters and that's not okay because I don't want them in my yard. I take this hardware cloth and use it for everything from reinforcing mortar and concrete repairs, to blocking openings around my chainlink fence, especially at the bottom and the gates. The square are small, so they bump into it and decide to go elsewhere, as it is easier to do so rather than trying to find a way in to discover there is no food inside.I also use it behind my plastic lattice fence. I have a curious critter of my own- a dog who is still very young and wanders behind the hedge following squirrel tracks. She doesn't need to be back there, so placing this as a reinforcement to my plastic lattice helps remind her where to stop. The rule is that if the squirrel makes it to the privet, he's safe. Teaching that rule takes time, but she'll get it and this wire fencing will help. It is perfect for so many tasks. And the roll is huge- a fantastic value for DIY tasks, chores, and repairs. It is easy to size and easy to work with. It cuts clean, holds secure, and looks great, blending seamlessly into the background.

Nice quality fencing, does its job. Not sure on the rust resistance or how long it will last. Hopefully it keeps the rabbits out of my garden and my plants alive. All over uniform coating thickness, bends easily and maintains the shape you make out of it. Would most likely be good for chickens as well and it would keep predators out for the most part. It would be advisable to burry some a foot or so underground with an outwards bend under the dirt and be sure to secure the pieces together really well every couple of inches with something really strong so nothing can squished between the layers. If this comes is a taller option that would be much better, say 48” or 72” tall would be way more ideal for chicken or small animal security measures. I’d also build a secondary fence around the coop as an added measure. It did work well for root protection and a barrier around raised beds to keep the bunnies out. You’ll need a few rolls to complete any of the above projects. So make sure and measure and plan your purchase accordingly.
