I am very pleased with the quality of this walnut shell media. It performs well in my tumbler for polishing silverware for bending and small metal parts, leaving a cleaner and brighter finish. The media is reusable with sifting, which adds value over time, and cleanup is straightforward. It does break down a bit when tumbling larger metal pieces. Whether you're using it for automotive maintenance or hobby projects, it seems versatile enough to handle a wide range of tasks.

I have done a lot of sandblasting over the past forty years, including cleaning up the parts from a 70’s Porsche that I almost completely disassembled, painted and rebuilt. I have also sandblasted the many wrought iron railings outside my century-old house and a set of vintage (rusty) iron, outdoor furniture that my wife insisted on buying despite my protests that we would have to sandblast it down to bare metal to repaint it properly. I’ve been tempted in the past to use walnut shells instead of sand, in part for personal safety and comfort because the protective gear I don when sandblasting is so uncomfortable, but I always resorted to sand because it is much easier to find – and much, much cheaper.One of the accompanying photos shows a $20, 3-pound container of these ground walnuts shells next to my trusty old sandblaster; you can see that it would take a LOT more to fill the hopper – and I have often had to refill the hopper multiple times to complete a project. A 50 lb. bag of sand suitable for sandblasting costs about $6 and can fill the hopper two or three times if necessary. When possible, I lay out a tarp and try to recapture the sand for reuse but I would not even attempt to use this walnut shell media out in the open; it’s just too expensive for the types of jobs I normally do. This media makes more sense if you have a sandblasting cabinet or tumbler or some other system that limits loss of the media. That said, the shells I received were clean and uniformly ground and I would certainly use them if I could, perhaps for a small job like cleaning a spark plug. The second photo shows the walnut shells next to some of my used sand (with bits of metal, rust and paint in the latter). The shells are much coarser than the sand I have been using but fine enough to pour through the mesh in my sandblaster.

I recently received this Deesucc 3LBS Walnut Shell Blasting Media 40-60 Mesh Grit - Natural Abrasive Sand for Intake Valve Carbon Cleaner, Tumbling Polishing, Metal Surface Preparation. I ordered this abrasive to clean and polish spent brass. I chose several spent brass rounds and put them in my tumbler for 36 hours. The abrasive did clean and polish them nicely, although it is difficult to really see the difference in the pictures. The brass was cleaned and polished; however, the discoloration will not change. Overall, I am pleased with the walnut shell, and it works as well as or better than other walnut media I have used in the past. I would recommend this walnut media for those looking to clean and polish any metals in a tumbler.

The grit size provided a good balance between cleaning power and surface protection, making it useful for carbon removal, polishing, and general media blasting tasks. The material appeared clean and consistent throughout the bag.I also appreciate that walnut shell media creates less dust than some harsher abrasives and is a more natural option for certain applications. It flowed smoothly through my equipment and produced reliable results.My only complaint is that the 3-pound bag can run out fairly quickly if you're working on larger projects. Overall though, the quality was good and it performed as expected.

I ordered this walnut media to use in my tumbler for polishing brass cases for reloading. This stuff works fine. The size of the particles is very good, a bit finer than my previous stuff, so it takes a bit longer to tumble, but leaves a smoother finish. There is surprisingly little dust. I love that it comes with a resealable bucket, and the media is bagged inside the bucket, so the whatever you don't immediately need can be resealed and well protected foir future use. The bucket even has a handle that makes it easy to carry. Five stars.

I picked up this walnut shell blasting media for a DIY intake valve carbon cleaning project, and it worked exactly as I hoped. The 40-60 mesh size flowed well through my blaster and did a great job removing carbon buildup without being overly aggressive on the metal surfaces.The media was clean, consistent in size, and produced very little dust compared to some other blasting materials I’ve used. I also like that it’s a natural abrasive, making cleanup a little easier.I still have plenty left over after my project, so I’ll be using the remainder for polishing and other small blasting jobs around the garage. Overall, a great value and a solid choice for anyone tackling intake valve cleaning or general DIY restoration work.
