This wet diamond core drill by SALI is exactly what you need to penetrate either a concrete or concrete block foundation when installing a 4” PVC pipe. You might think that 4” schedule 40 PVC pipe requires a 4” core drill but that would be incorrect. If you look at the outside diameter needed, you will see that a 5” core drill like this one is needed. This is not designed to be used dry so if your core bit driver doesn't have provisions for supplying water then you will need to spray it with a garden hose as you work. This will also drill through rock which is good to know since many house foundations in my area are built on ledges of shale. It will work on almost any masonry material including brick as well. This has a standard threaded core drill attachment point so if you are using it with a large hammer drill you will need a separately-sold core drill bit adapter. Don’t worry, they are inexpensive. Core drills and especially large ones like these are expensive in general but this one isn’t priced outrageously. This is the kind of tool that you probably won’t need frequently but when you do you really need it. Recommended.

This diamond core drill bit held up well as I made the 4-inch hole through a block wall. I did not have the ability to keep it cool with water because of it being inside. The water would have damaged the floor. Regardless, it drilled through the block without losing integrity. I paused a few times to make sure the bit and my hammer drill didn’t overheat. The length was perfect for me to punch through a drywall-cladded studded wall, block, and then more lathe and drywall on the other side. I just used it for the entire job through the wall.The bit needs an adapter to attach to whatever drill you may need. I have a standard SDS drill, so I purchased the adapter on Amazon. Just make sure you are aware of this before purchasing.I made the hole so I could put a 4-inch hole through to another room to provide ventilation. I bought an inline fan, 3D printed the ductwork and vents on both sides, and ran power to it. The hole was perfectly sized for everything.There is still plenty of life left in this bit for many more holes. Have no fear of whether or not it will get your job done with a regular hammer drill. If you monitor the heat, you’ll do just fine.

I was genuinely impressed with this 4-inch core drill bit. Through straight concrete, it cut every bit as well as professional core bits I’ve used that cost four times as much. I drilled six holes with it, and it cut quickly and smoothly through the concrete.On the sixth hole, the bit suddenly slowed down considerably when I hit rebar. At first, I thought it simply wasn’t able to cut through the steel. I stayed on it for about 15 minutes before finally completing the hole.When I removed the core, I couldn’t believe what I found. The bit had encountered approximately SIX pieces of rebar in a single hole. Several were substantial hits, and I actually half-mooned two of the bars. I’ve used professional core bits that cost four times as much, and this amount of reinforcing steel would have given any of them a serious workout. After seeing what this bit had actually cut through, I was no longer surprised that it slowed down!Considering how quickly it cut the first five holes and what it managed to get through on the sixth, I’m extremely impressed with its performance. For the price, this core bit is an exceptional value and performed far better than I expected.

Nice looking and well made core bit! Not bad at all for the money, pretty affordable for a 15" length and 5" diameter core bit. I have a good collection of these from living in a masonry/brick home, every time a project happens it seems like i need a core bit or a hammer drill so i'm pretty used to using these. This is for the standard 1-1/4"-7 threaded arbor, if you don't have one get one with a hose hookup for easy water application through the arbor into the core bit, it makes for a much nicer job, sure it can create a bit of a wet mess but its better then filling the whole building with dust from drilling with a dry core bit, i've done both and wet core drilling is best when you can!This one seems well made, the teeth on it look really nice, and it should have zero issues going through concrete or brick, i got a project coming up this thing is going to see some work! I have no doubts it will handle it just by looking at it, i have a couple other SALI brand core drill bits and they have been used and abused and haven't had any issues.If you need it, you know this isn't a bad price, you can rent things like this but its almost cheaper to buy versus rent these days and then you have it in the tool arsenal for next time! Good value for the money, should drill quite a few holes before those teeth wear down.
