I swapped out the old silver screening in the back porch frames and stretched this black steel wire into place. Pulling it tight against the aluminum channel was simple enough without the material kinking or fraying at the edges. Once the spline was rolled down, the dark tint completely cut the afternoon glare while I sat outside with coffee. It stays rigid in the frame and doesn't flap around when the wind kicks up off the yard. The dark color disappears from a few feet away, so I actually have a clear view of the trees now.

This screen will work well for my needs. Rodents chewed through three of my existing screens and got into my house. So far they've left my patio slider screen door alone but I'd rather be prepared. Additionally I have three dogs who don't always realize the screen door is closed and ended up ruining the existing screen.Rodents can chew through other screen materials including aluminum. Not so with stainless steel. Also I live in a high fire danger area, and stainless steel screens can stop flying embers which might otherwise burn through other types of screens.This screen looks perfect for my use. The mesh is about the same size as my existing mesh, so I'm unsure whether it will stop no-see-um gnats which love to bite me, but it will definitely stop mosquitos and other annoying pests plus hopefully keep my dogs in check. The screen is thicker than other screen materials and being metal is a little challenging to use, but it's worth it. Visually I think it will work well as black screen provides the least interference with view.This 36" x 84" will work perfectly for my sliding patio screen door. I may have to go down to a thinner spline to accommodate the thickness of this screen material, but it will be worth it. Stainless steel is not cheap, but compared to dealing with rodents in my house or having my dogs destroy the screen it is completely worth the extra cost.
