We were looking for a way to fix up an old lamp and we found this UBANU Lamp Rewire Kit.This kit made a project that seemed intimidating actually pretty manageable. The bronze socket gives the lamp such a nice vintage look, way better than the original plain socket it had. The cord is nice and long too, so we had plenty of flexibility figuring out exactly how we wanted to hang our fixture.Everything needed came in the box, which we appreciated, no scrambling to find extra connectors or hardware halfway through the project. The built in switch feels smooth to operate right at the socket, and the wire insulation was easy to strip without a ton of effort or the wrong tools.Great kit whether you're restoring an old lamp or building something completely custom. It gave us everything we needed in one package and the end result looks great hanging in our living room.

I ordered this rewire kit to create a brand-new lamp completely from scratch, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Everything I needed in terms of electrical components (minus the light bulb itself) was included right in the package. The entire assembly process was incredibly straightforward and easy to put together, even if you don't have a ton of electrical experience.However, there is one very important safety detail that I feel future buyers should be fully aware of before purchasing. This kit comes with a two-prong power cord, which means it is not UL-approved or safe for metal light fixtures. If the outer shell or body of your custom lamp is made of wood, ceramic, glass, or plastic, this kit will work beautifully and safely. But if your fixture's outer shell contains any metal, it can accidentally become electrified if a wire slips. Because of that hazard, the USA National Electrical Code (NEC) strictly requires a three-prong, grounded cord for metal fixtures.For a project using non-conductive materials, this kit is an excellent choice. It provides high-quality, durable components and a very convenient setup process that provided me with great value.

This is an almost perfect kit to help you rewire a lamp. Or even make a lamp from scratch. There are no instructions included however, I have rewired lamps before so I know how this works. There are great videos and I don't know that instructions should be included in a kit like this anyway because no instructions is better than bad or incomplete ones, so there is that. Instructions aren't in the kits I've bought at the local hardware store either. The reason for knocking off a star is not because of this but because the post for the switch's turn knob is very small and feels fragile, it might break soon. It also has a lot of slop and wiggle room so every time you go to turn the switch you are bumping around a small fragile turn knob. The wire is sturdy, the same gauge as I have purchased from local stores. There is a screw terminal included. That type is unnecessary for any of the lamp rewire style jobs I have ever done. I didn't need that included and don't know that I would ever use this type of connector for a job that the other parts of this kit are needed. So I threw it in my odds and ends box for some other time if I ever remember I have it and need it.

I got this lamp kit to build a temporary light-weight hanging lamp that looks nice -- this kit definitely worked well. If you are looking to rewire an old favorite or build a custom light fixture from scratch, this lamp socket kit packs a ton of value into a single package. The lamp cord itself is properly double insulated, and it comes with a standard polarized power plug (optional for in-ceiling mounting).You'll want to make sure if you are directly replacing a lamp that this will fit appropriately. It may require your lamp have an IPS insert. Some really cheap lamps use custom plastic sockets that won't allow you to use something like this as a replacement.The entire assembly of the socket is also maintainable. On the housing of the socket, next to the UL stamp marking, is a laser etched "PRESS". If you stick a screw driver into the crimp point at that location and gently pry and wiggle it, you can pop the bottom half of the socket off to access the screw terminals for a complete re-wire of the socket itself if necessary (most people don't know this).You will want a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the rotating switch shaft in place while you screw the thumb piece back on if you ever back it off the screw, otherwise you can't fully tighten it back on before it starts to turn the lamp on and off and it may remain loose.Overall the finish is nice looking rubbed bronze and looks to be of a decent quality.If I had to critique something it would be that the IPS threads are plastic instead of metal.

If you need to rewire a lamp completely or just make some repairs, this is an excellent kit. The switch on the socket is NOT a 3-way; it's just an on/off switch. (Reason for 4-star rating) Everything in the kit has a dark, retro look, and there's a round trim piece designed to be installed on the ceiling for hanging pendant lights. You can build your own lamp from scratch, too. The wire is high-quality, flexible, and easily cuts to a convenient length, so you won't have a lot of extra wire hanging around or on the floor. Easy to use, and the kit keeps you from having to buy all the parts individually, actually saving a little money.
