This is a very solid gate latch and feels like it should hold up well outdoors. The quality and durability are excellent, with heavy-duty construction that feels substantial and much stronger than a basic gate latch.The two-way design is probably my favorite feature. Being able to swing the gate in either direction makes it much more convenient, and the self-locking mechanism works smoothly when closing the gate. I also like having the option to add a padlock when I want the gate secured.Installation was straightforward, and everything needed to mount it was included. Once installed, it feels stable and secure without a lot of movement or play in the mechanism.The black finish also looks good on a metal gate and gives it a clean, professional appearance. For the price, the value is excellent considering the weight, construction quality, functionality, and versatility.Overall, this is a well-designed, sturdy, easy-to-use gate latch that does exactly what I wanted. 5 stars.

I use these latches to secure my cattle gates. They are very tough, very well made latches. These latches are really easy to install and use, and lock gates securely. This is the first set I have had with the loop for a padlock which I like. I like this style of latch because it is easy to open your gate either way and all you have to do is push the gate to close it. If you set these latches up right, they lift the gate a little which supports it between both gate posts and helps keep your hinge post from sagging over time. If you need good latches for your farm gates these are very functional locking latches that work great.

I have a lot of gates around my farm and I have been slowly transitioning them to all have this type of two a one hand latch. It is very handy to have a latch that you can open and close with one hand. This particular won’t match opens and closes smoothly and well, no problems with sticking so far. They are easy to install once you get the hang of it. They come with a small adjuster on the inside that you may or may not need depending on whether you have have a duty or light duty gateYou do need to make sure that you leave enough space between your fence posts that there is room for the gate plus about 4 inches for this type of latch. If you have a little extra room, you can always adjust it using the hanger hinges on the opposite side of your gate. That being said this particular hinge is made of good quality materials, although I do expect it to rest eventually. That doesn’t really bother me. This style of hinge all seemed to be very similar to me. Brand-name ones have slightly smoother edges on the handles, but these ones are not exactly sharp. Apart from that they’re nearly identical. I also like the fact that these are black it’s a little more subtle than the bright red ones at tractor supply these are just as good as the brand-name ones so I consider a good value for the cost.

The Boodvon 2 Way Gate Latch was truly designed with livestock in mind. It’s heavy enough to withstand the antics of my escape artist animals. The latch has a self-locking mechanism that automatically locks when the gate closes. I only have one trouble-maker pony who is smart enough to try lifting the latch. For her, there’s a padlock/carabiner hole for added security. The rest of our animals including the bigger horses, sheep, goats and LGDs push against it, but can’t let themselves out. Without a clip, it’s easy to operate one handed. I can carry in a bucket or flakes of hay without having to set it on the ground or press whatever I’m holding against the fence with my chest so I have both hands. Yay, for less itchy alfalfa in my bra! It only takes one finger to open. To close the slam latch, I simply push the panel shut. The spring-loaded hook will automatically retract when it hits the striker plate, then locks into place. The gate doesn’t pop open in winds or when there’s an impact against the fence or gate. The latch fits 1-3/4" to 2" round tube gates, so measure your gate tube twice before purchasing. If adding or replacing a latch on an existing gate, it’s important to understand that the pipe needs to be aligned to the post with not too big of a gap between the post and the panel. I’d replace all my latches with these, but I have a few one-way gates where the pipe ends up in front of the post, and couldn’t use this latch without first replacing the post. When it’s time to do that, I’ll definitely be switching the other gates to these Boodvon latches. They are easy to install. Our only (minor) complaint is that two different sized bolts are included, so my husband needed both a 13 and 14mm wrench. Once in place, the result is a very secure fit between the panel and the post. The fence will not move (and make noise) except when it’s being opened and closed. The latch has only been installed a short time, but exposed to moisture with no signs of rust. I’m sure this 2 way gate latch will outlast the wood fence.

This gate latch is perfect, it works so well, I was really surprised at how smoothly it operates while doing such a good job of holding the latch peg.In my case, the gate I'm working on is not a standard farm gate, it's more of a custom privacy fence gate I made out of some found supplies (old scaffolding I cut up with an angle grinder), so I couldn't actually use this latch for it's intended purpose of holding a gate closed, but that's fine because I already have a fine way of holding it closed anyways.What I really needed was a way to hold the gate open.Typically people might use a metal cane along with a hole in the ground the cane drops into, and those do a fine job unless it's winter time and the ground is covered in ice and snow. In that case, the metal cane approach doesn't work at all. So I thought I'd try this latch out as a gate hold-open, and it works so well, it's just great. It doesn't require any kind of 'push the peg into the latch' force, it's a zero-entry-force style mechanism, so I can just open the gate, give it a little nudge towards this latch, and the motion of it swinging open is enough to securely engage the latch and hold the gate very strongly. I'm sure it could stand up to significant winds, which is great because sometimes it will need to, while I'm driving my car out of the gate, so the gate doesn't swing into my car.100% recommend this for your farm gate latch needs, or if you're like me and like to customize, it also works very well as a hold-open latch.One thing to keep in mind for your planning purposes: the latch plate does not fit comfortably on a 4x4 post. You will need a 6x6. That's why in my install, I cut my 4x4 mounting post diagonally to create a large enough flat surface to attach it to. Most installations won't be able to do that very well though, so plan on 6x6 posts for this.(edit: I just bought another one to do the other side of my gate. These are great)
