I'm in the process of building a computer desk and needed some C channel supports to ensure it doesn't twist. I grabbed these to give them a try and see how they do.Firstly, the box they arrive in is heavy, and that's a good thing. As soon as you pick them up you can tell they're made of steel, and made well.There's a good bit of clearance for the bolts to move around and work with expansion and contraction throughout the year. The inserts are also if nice quality.The one thing that really wow'd me was the powder coat finish. Typically I don't see companies put a lot of effort into C channel painting. It's usually a high gloss paint job that arrives chipped. Not these. They're powder coated to perfection. Every groove is covered and the finish is flawless. It makes it easy to know if anyone looks underneath, they'll see a great finish on the table and the brackets.Overall, given the ease of installation, the quality, and the superb finish, I would absolutely recommend these to anyone.

I got the 6 pack of 36 inch C channels and will be great for 2 or 3 different projects. I love that there are so many options for quantity and length. The powder coating finish is nice and well done. The black color is perfect and doesn't draw any attention to it. The overall quality is great and is exactly what I needed. The C channel is thick enough and rigid enough to keep even large slabs flat and straight. You can recess the c channel into the wood by routering out two slots in the underside of the slab but its not actually necessary. When it is recessed, it does look a lot better and keeps it out of the way. The channel is fairly deep, so I would not recommend recessing these unless the slab is over 1.5 inches thick. It comes with hardware including thread inserts, bolts and washers. The hardware was in a thin plastic bag which ripped during shipping so there was bolts and washers everywhere. The channel is slotted to allow for wood movement. Despite the laughable AI generated pictures and video in the description (the more you look, the worse it is), the C channel is great quality and works great. Its best to install the C channel across the grain to prevent cupping on large slabs and glue ups like table tops or desks. The slots in the C channel are great because they allow for wood movement. Overall, this is a great product for woodworkers and DIYers building tables and larger projects.

These are extremely high-quality steel support bars. Excellent build quality. Very high detail to the manufacturing and surface quality. They seemed to be cast or forged but definitely flat and precise. They absolutely have a significant value.I have a large desk that I purchased when bamboo and carbonization was the craze. I have to admit that it looked great when new. Over time it's not so good. It is not as rugged and stable as standard wood species. Part of the stability is an actual warped and bowed top. It becomes really apparent in the summer here when the humidity climbs. Putting a round object on the desk, and it will roll off in different positions on the desktop. I was looking for a quick fix but also for a way to build with wood and prevent it from warping and bowing. Even good-looking, tight-grained hardwoods can bow and warp, especially with panel glue-ups.I've seen these tabletop support bars used by talented carpenters, and it really adds to the stability of the furniture. They explain ways to construct furniture to hide these, but it isn't essential to me to hide the underside of a table or desk. I actually like to visually see internal structure that is tastefully designed into furniture.My first step is to use these to rescue the bamboo desktop now. The can be installed several ways, but I think in this case installing them with the ribs not routed into the surface would be best. These support bars are very stiff and don't seem to need to be imbedded into wood to achieve high stability and strength. The slotted mounts will allow for natural wood movement across the top. I'll pay attention to the humidity when I install these to anticipate if the wood is expanded or contracted at the current time. The self-adjustability of the manufactured slots is a key feature to take advantage of.My next step is to use these in a glued-up panel top made from hardwood. Species to be determined. In this case I will design it to be routed into the bottom side of the panel for a recessed look.The hardware, such as threaded inserts and bolts, is included. This will help me a long way into the installation and build-out.There are many fine examples of using support bars like this from very gifted carpenters and furniture makers. It takes finely manufactured and quality-built support bars like these to achieve the results I'm looking for.

Having built several pieces of furniture for my home, I'll be upfront and point out that I have never had any issues with any of my panel glue-ups turning into potato chips, even after a decade of use. That includes a thick, 4 x 8 foot cherry dinner tabletop, and a thin 2 x 4 foot ash desktop.However, that is not to say that it does not happen. Even properly milled kiln-dried hardwood can and does warp sometimes. Especially when exposed to large swings in humidity, as one might encounter outdoors. I'm all for a belt-and-suspenders approach to all things, so a little added insurance against warpage by adding some steel C-channel is good practice in my book. For an indoor tabletop, I wouldn't worry about it until around 4 feet in width (minimum). That's why I picked up the 48-inch bars.Let's talk glue-ups... Common woodworker wisdom dictates that you're supposed to alternate grain direction when gluing up panels. That's all find and good when you're a giant wood shop with tons of lumber to work with. For a hobbyist, though, you have to work with the boards you have. Sometimes that means choosing a board because of the color or grain match, rather than grain direction. You want the prettiest side up on a table, so maybe you can't always alternate every board perfectly. Oh, and for slabs, all bets are off.That's where C-channel really shines. It uses the superior strength of steel to fight the wood's tendency to cup or bow. Most woodworkers I watch on videos use slightly wider pieces that appear to be 3 inches in width, as opposed to these 2-inch pieces. I really don't see that as a problem, though. I'd be surprised if the 3-inch version resisted bending any better than the 2-inch bars. And, if we're being honest, the threaded inserts would probably tear out of the wood before the wood could ever bend the steel bar anyway. Plus, it's just easier to rout a 2-inch groove.The bars themselves are very nice. Good, thick steel. They arrived in great shape, with a nice black (powder coat?) finish on them. The slots for the bolts are consistent and relatively burr-free. They have elongated slots, rather than round holes, which allows for seasonal wood movement. You can crank down the bolts in the center of the tabletop, leaving the others slightly loose so they can move with the wood inside the slots while still preventing cupping or warping.Two things of note...The first is that these are not what I'd call cheap. My guess is that you could probably find something similar (unfinished) at a much more affordable price at a local metal supplier if you really wanted to go that route to save some money. Aside from the cost of a can of black spray paint, you're paying for the convenience of not having to deal with some unfriendly guy or gal behind a desk inside some noisy warehouse that's only open from 6am - 2pm, closed on weekends and all holidays (including arbor day), with 10 other impatient tradesmen waiting behind you in line. And boy, if you think the hardwood dealers can be intimidating, I dare you to try the metal suppliers.The other thing is how they depict the installation process in the photos. If you decided to only rout two thin dadoes for the C-channel to fit into, the bars would sit proud of the wood. In the photos, it sits pretty flush, so I'm assuming they also used a router to lower the wood between the dadoes by the exact thickness of the steel. I think this works great for thin panels, but for a thicker tabletop? I'd just rout a single 2-inch-wide dado and install the C-channel upside down. There would still be plenty of wood for the threaded inserts to bite into and you wouldn't have to deal with the precision it takes to rout two perfectly parallel dadoes for each piece of steel to fit into.All things considered, I'm giving this a 5/5 rating. You're getting a quality product conveniently for a fair price. You may want to source your own threaded inserts and hardware, though.

I do a fair amount of woodworking as a hobby and, over time, have gotten into increasingly complex things (for me, at least).. One is assembling or repurposing old furniture. Most recently, I refinished an old coffee table top that was multiple live edge planks glued together. I added hairpin legs to it, but wanted to add some stability since it was made from multiple planks glued together. These braces fit the bill. I'm also repurposing the circle top from an old bourbon barrel into a small table - same thing, using these braces to help provide stability since those tops, too, are made of multiple pieces of wood. They came packaged well and securely, even individually plastic-wrapped to help protect the coating. The metal itself is nice & thick, making it strong, tough and durable. I like that the holes they include are slots instead of plain holes - this adds to the ability to adjust/shift them as needed for final fit. The two reasons I only gave these four stars is a) the instructions were very sparse, and left you on your own to figure out what drill bit size you need for the threaded inserts, etc., and b) the screws they provide aren't the strongest I've ever seen. On the latter, I initially went to just screw them in, but about 4 out of the first 6 just broke off (this was into hardwood) - so I ended up pre-drilling holes for the rest. Not the biggest deal, and I know that ideally you should often predrill, but these were pretty weak screws. Having said that, I'm overall happy with these braces for my projects and would use them again.
