Great Quality Hurricane Ties! Heavy Duty Steel Construction! Powder Coated! I ordered these, as I am planning to build a shed. I live in the south, and we deal with hurricanes. These hurricane ties are definitely heavy duty, and thicker than others I’ve used in the past. I like the black powder coat finish, as it is more visually appealing than the galvanized look. The 4 inch plate has six pre-drilled holes: five holes to secure to the top plate, and one hole to secure to the stud. This will work for 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 rafters. At this price point, the value for the money is hard to beat. Overall, I recommend this product!

These are made of a good sturdy thick carbon steel. The black glossy finish should work especially well for installing them in a location where they will be seen as part of a structure that will be admired, if only subconsciously, by those around the structure, so they can be more than just a bracket, but part of an architectural quality design and an aesthetic. The black color would work really well with stained wood. I will be using them in a location that won’t be seen by anyone but me—my attic where I need to reinforce the cross beams there in my very old house. I do need regular hurricane clips for my rafters, but these won’t work for that purpose since they are designed for right angle connections. Outdoors, these would be good for something like a pergola or deck. The finish looks like it will be rust resistant, and since they are black, even if they did develop some minor rust, it wouldn’t be too apparent.The fit with a standard 2x4” piece of lumber is perfect. The only thing I’m not too thrilled about is the flanges for attaching a 2x4” lumber are fairly short, so if your intention is to attach these with screws, you’re not likely to get a straight shot at the holes with a power tool. The screws will probably have to go in at somewhat of an angle. All around, these are a very good choice for the combination of both strong reinforcement and for aesthetics. My very old house is way beyond much consideration for aesthetics. I’m just trying to keep it standing, but these clips are sturdy enough to keep me confident they will hold very well in a disaster.
