  • Gravity Self-Locking, Close & Lock: Using gravity technology, the gate latch automatically drops and locks when the gate closes. The fence gate latch requires no manual operation. To open, simply lift the latch or attach a cord/wire (not included) for remote release, making daily access more convenient.

Simple latch that closes my barn gate securelySimple latch that closes my barn gate securely

[Color: Black, Number of Items: 1, Color: Black, Number of Items: 1]
This latch works as expected on my wood barn gate. The pieces line up cleanly, the included screws are good enough for the purpose. Instal just takes a few minutes. Once adjusted, the bar drops into place automatically when the gate closes instead of making me reach around and latch it every time. The black finish is quality, but it does get hot - though I'm not sure it's really any hotter than bare metal.

Good quality, durable, lockable

[Color: Black, Number of Items: 1]
I now have eight grandchildren and they are getting to the age where they're a little bit more brave when it comes to venturing beyond the area that they're supposed to stay within. I put cameras all around the yard, which are greats, but it still doesn't stop a child from walking away, walking into the street, etc So my son-in-law and I decided we're going to install a fence. Pre-made fences and installed fences are just not in our budget so we're going to make this one ourselves. Obviously we'll need a gate and that's why I picked up this latch. Quality is excellent. It certainly works the way it's supposed to. It's coated and seems adequately able to withstand the elements. There's also a spot to put a padlock which is also nice. I think this latch will suit our purpose very well.

A well constructed gate latch

[Color: Black, Number of Items: 1]
I had such high hopes for this item—and still do—having recently purchased a 1950s home with a spacious backyard and a raised wooden fence that's definitely seen better days. After tackling repairs on the side fence by the garage, I thought this automatic gravity lever latch was the perfect solution. Alas, the universe had other plans: the gate swings too close to the garage wall, leaving insufficient clearance for the latch mechanism. C'est la vie!The good news? This latch is **absolutely going into my upcoming chicken run with gate**, where it will be ideal. More importantly, the quality speaks for itself. This is a **well-constructed, sturdy piece of hardware** with excellent weather-resistant coating that's built to last through years of use and the elements. It's a stark contrast to my current fence latch—a rusty, bent relic that won't latch reliably and has let my dog escape more times than I'd care to admit. (As they say, "Run free and live like a dog where the fence door was left open"—but that's a lesson I'd prefer not to keep learning!)**What You're Getting:**- Heavy-duty construction that won't rust or deteriorate quickly- Smooth, reliable automatic gravity mechanism- Professional-grade coating and finish- The kind of hardware that actually performs its job consistentlyThis latch simply wasn't right for my garage-side gate, but that's a clearance issue, not a product flaw. For any standard gate application with proper spacing, this is **exactly what you need to keep gates secure and functioning reliably for decades to come**. Highly recommended. For a normal gate - and mine is probably the only odd one - this would work wonders.

Heavy-Duty Gravity Latch and Zero Sag SecurityHeavy-Duty Gravity Latch and Zero Sag Security

[Color: Black, Number of Items: 1, Color: Black, Number of Items: 1]
Verdict: Installing a flimsy latch on an exterior wooden gate usually means dealing with rattling doors, loose alignment, and latches that bounce open the second livestock, pets, or high winds hit the fence. If you need a robust, self-locking security closure that handles heavy everyday use without failing, this MENGBEI Self Locking Gate Latch delivers exceptional structural integrity. It provides heavy-gauge steel construction, a positive gravity-locking mechanism, and reliable out-of-the-box hardware that keeps your gates securely shut.ProsPositive Gravity-Locking Action: The automatic gravity lever drops securely into the latch fork every time the gate swings shut, ensuring it locks automatically behind you without needing to manually fiddle with padlocks or drop pins.Heavy-Gauge Steel Build: Unlike cheap stamped-metal latches that bend or flex under stress, this unit features thick steel framing designed to absorb impact and resist twisting when gates slam shut.Padlock-Ready Security: The built-in locking hole allows you to drop a standard padlock through the mechanism whenever you need total security or want to prevent unauthorized entry from the outside.ConsAlignment Protocol (Installer's Tip): Just a standard mechanical heads-up for your gate post installation—because gravity latches rely on exact vertical alignment to drop smoothly into the strike bar, take an extra minute to verify your post and gate plumb before driving your final screws. Ensuring zero gap slop guarantees the latch catches cleanly every single time.Bang for your BuckFor any property owner, contractor, or DIY builder securing a wooden fence, garden gate, or outdoor shed, this automatic latch delivers outstanding practical utility. It completely outclasses standard hardware store hook-and-eye closures by offering commercial-grade gravity locking and durable steel construction for a very fair price. It is definitively worth screwing onto your gate post to keep your enclosures secure, tight, and hassle-free.

Not the same as picturedNot the same as pictured

This Mengbei gate latch is not the same as the pictures, but I was able to make it work. In the pictures, the bar portion of the latch has the 90 degree bend on the outside of the mounting plate. It was on the inside when I received it. I was still able to mount the latch, and it works well, but the pictures don’t match what you think you’re getting and if you’re working with limited space, like I was, trying to mount it can be difficult. It came with both sides of the latch and some mounting screws. The screws were very lightweight and bent even after pre-drilling pilot holes. I did end up getting new stainless hardware and used that instead.
