The construction of this seems pretty solid, with nice heavy 14AWG wire that will handle most electrical needs. A great way to add a switch wherever needed, and as easy to use as you could expect. Excellent no-brainer product for indoor use, BUT for outdoor use, a few things should be kept in mind:The switch itself might be waterproof (although if the gasket is missing like another reviewer found, it really isn't), but the plugs are not. The only safe way to use this outdoors in rain/snow would be if both plugs are kept dry, either plugged into a weatherproof outdoor receptacle or covered with a snap-on waterproof cord cover, or running in/out of a weatherproof enclosure of some sort. If being used for outdoor lights, usually the plugs can be somewhat protected, at least enough to keep them from shorting out. I got this with the intention of using it for powering low voltage lights and having a simple mechanical switch rather than a remote control and all that (I have plenty of that going on already). How I would use this is to plug the male end into a "wet while in use" receptacle on the outside of my house, with the female end running into a plastic enclosure of some sort (I have several) containing an outlet strip and power transformers. When I wanted to turn lights on, I could just bend down and flip a switch and power up an entire set of lights rather than opening an app on my phone, waiting for a connection, trying 3-4 times, and maybe getting the lights on. With one lingering issue (I'll get to that shortly), I think it will work great for my needs. Simply put though, for outdoor use, the plugs should both be kept somewhere dry, even if the switch itself is exposed.My biggest complaint about this cord/switch is that is has no built-in means for mounting it. No screw holes, no brackets, no keyhole slots. Nothing. It's clearly intended to just hang from an outlet unless the cord is long enough for it to sit somewhere (floor, shelf, etc) and then it still isn't fixed in place. I can see some situations where having the male plug on the long end would be beneficial, but that may not be ideal either, for some uses.Overall, it's a solid item though, IF it fits your need. If you need to mount it though, it's going to take some creative problem solving. The wire gauge is really overkill for most lighting needs, but there's nothing wrong with that, and it makes it usable for higher-current items (power tools, etc) that you might want to be able to cut power to. I have to think the $20 price comes from both the heavier wire and a sturdy switch. If you don't need either, you could probably find something cheaper, but I feel this is a reasonable value for what you're getting. Whatever length you order, it appears they all are geared around having the switch near your powered device and the length placed between the switch and the power source, which makes more sense in most cases. For my purpose, the 3ft cable makes sense, but for many situations you may want longer.

I have many things that have 3 prongs but not extension cords that can handle 3 prongs. This one is the perfect size for my couch connection. It isn’t long so I don’t have to try and hide it under the couch or table. It is a good strong cord and the connections seem secure. It doesn’t look like some of the cheaper looking cords. The switch is nice to have for quick on/off without having to unplug.

Excellent idea! I have several fans and other appliances that are in behind furniture or other places where it is hard to reach the on/off switch. With this little cord, you revers that--the power switch is now right by the outlet and easy reach--even with a toe is you don't want to bend down. At 3-feet, it also the perfect size extension for kitchen tools like the breadmaker, coffee pot, mixer or whatever you have that needs a bit more reach.

I originally picked up this three foot extension cord because I was already thinking ahead to Christmas tree season. Yes, it is the middle of summer, but apparently I plan my holiday electrical setup months in advance now. The problem with many Christmas tree light cords is that they do not have an on and off switch. That usually means crawling under the tree, reaching behind furniture, and trying not to knock off an ornament just to unplug everything.This extension cord solves that problem in a very simple way. The three foot length gives me enough extra distance from the wall outlet so I can place the switch somewhere that is much easier to reach. Instead of plugging and unplugging the lights every day, I can just press the illuminated switch. The light on the switch is helpful because it makes it easy to tell when the power is on, especially in a darker room.I was also impressed by how thick and sturdy the cord feels. This is not one of those thin little cords that feels like it should only be used for a tiny lamp. It has a 14 AWG three prong cord and is rated for 15 amps and 125 volts. That makes it useful for lights as well as other equipment that may need a heavier duty cord.The three foot length will not work for every situation, but that is really the point. It is long enough to create some space between the outlet and whatever you are powering without leaving a huge pile of extra cord on the floor.For Christmas lights, lamps, or anything else that would be easier to control with a switch, this is a practical little upgrade. Sometimes the simplest products end up being the ones you use the most.

This is a good choice for switching any load up to 15A that plugs into a standard outlet. The switch is large, easy to operate, and clearly illuminated when it's on. Yes, the cord is short, but often that's exactly what you want - it puts the switch close to the outlet, and doesn't leave excess cord to stow or untangle.I took off the cover to check the internals. The wire gauge looks appropriate, the solder connections are good (although I prefer a more robust physical connection under the solder), the ground line is wired straight through as it should be, and there are good strain relief clamps securing both the input and output cords. It looks like the switch disconnects BOTH sides of the line, not just the hot side; I consider that a good feature.I did notice that while the enclosure has a slot for a gasket, there isn't one installed. This might compromise water resistance. I have no plans to use this where it could be exposed to water, so that's not an issue for me.Recommended!

Good accessory for switching off something that doesn't have a power switch on it. I have a large battery charger that i use for bulk and float charging some batteries and it doesn't have a power switch on it, just have to plug it in and unplug it, and that gets annoying really quick, now with this inline it has a power switch and i can stop the plug dance all the time, unplug and plug, unplug and plug.... Good heavy cord, switch feels really well made, backlit when turned on to let you know its on. Sure i could have cut the cord and put an inline switch on it, but i just didn't want to chop the stock cord to do it and take all the time and effort to do so. This solved the problem. It is a bit spendy, $20 for a short cord with a switch seems a little much, but its all a matter of convenience, my time is worth something, so plugging it in to this is quicker then chopping the cord and putting a switch inline. For me, thats an overall good value for the money, a time saver and a power saver cause now it gets shut off rather then procrastinating about bending over to unplug it!
