Professional Knee Pads for Work

First off, I have to say that I’m not a professional that works in a field that requires me to be on my knees so this is going to be a DIY’ers assessment. As such, I have purchased several different sets of knee pads over the years for recreational purposes where being on one’s knees in rocky environments is not fun.The knee pads I’ve tried were from low ball cheap foam pads that were generally bought or donated to Habitat for Humanity for volunteers to use in constructing houses. Those served their purpose but they had a tendency to slip around although not as bad as some of the more expensive ones I bought for myself. The first set I bought had heavy padding with hard plastic cups on the outer surface for added protection. They came with a single strap that wrapped around the back of the knee. The single strap was hit or miss. Hit because they didn’t drift up or down the leg much but a miss because the wide strap would bunch up making them rather uncomfortable to wear long term.The last set I bought had two straps which I thought would make then wear a lot better than the previous style. These were designed with one strap above the knee and one below the knee. Thick padding and gel like cups on the surface. Very comfortable on the knees as they withstood impacting against the floor, ground or rocks with ease. The problem with those was the double straps. Fine when standing up after putting them on. Walk around a bit and they start slipping down the leg. Kneel down and the straps start looking for neutrality while being pulled tightly in different directions, which was generally in the pocket of the back of the knees. The bottom strap wanted to rise while the top strap wanted to fall. Again bunching up in the pocket. Crawl around a bit and the cups start drifting sideways until they are no longer covering or protecting the knees. Duct tape becomes the go to solution for keeping those knee pads in place.Now comes the new and improved god send of knee pads. Extended length knee pads with an articulating hinged strap section that cinches above the knee where it remains out of the way. A second strap that cinches below the pocket of the knee at the bottom of the padded section. Both straps remain far from the pocket of the knee and extended hinge part eliminates the torque generally applied to double strap knee pads and these don’t bunch up behind the knee. Instead they keep the pads right where they need to be at all times. The top strap section may push the pads down a bit when standing but they don’t fall so far as to require readjustment before kneeling again. The top strap simply lifts the pads back into position before the knees hit the ground.I’m not sure how long this design has been around but I wish I had found them sooner. I will be happily using them very soon while crawling around under my house in a rocky crawl space, replacing the degrading water pipes. So far I’m loving these knee pads. Well worth the $22 asking price.

This is my first set of knee pads with the extended length that goes up over the knee. I wasn't sure how I'd like that design at first, but it's actually turned out pretty nice.I've always had issues with regular knee pads sliding down during use, and this extended design solves that problem well, they stay in place. An unintended bonus I didn't expect is that the extra length also keeps dirt and debris from getting in at the top, which normally happens to me when working in the yard. That's a nice side benefit beyond just the fit itself.The velcro panels are large and work well, holding the pads securely in place without loosening up during movement. The front of the knee pads has a slightly flexible rubber shell, giving some give without feeling stiff or rigid against the knee.Padding is good overall, and they're comfortable to wear for extended periods of kneeling work. Overall, a solid upgrade over standard knee pads, especially if you deal with sliding or debris getting in during yard or floor work.

These fit perfectly. They are perfect and have multiple uses. Working and need to kneel often? These are great. Protecting yourself while riding? These are great for that too. The thick foam keeps your knees protected. They guard you very well. They are lightweight and you hardly notice them there. These have great padding and are a great cost.

These are not going to be a good fit for bigger legs. (This is the EXTENDED LENGTH kneepads, They are not extended girth) I am very average american sized, 36x32 pants, and I feel like the velcro straps are almost at thier limit. If my legs were any bigger around the velcro would be at its outter limits and risk poping apart with bending and kneeling. (Minus one star for being a bit narrow by USA standard)The rubber pads are rather stiff, they will work just fine for constantly down on your kness, but not ideal for a lot of Up/Down movements. These are not like the Gel/Soft knee pads, but they are also not hard plastic, just stiff rubber. (Minus Half Star for for the rubber being stiffer than I was expecting)They seem to be well constructed, good sewing, sturdy materials. BUT, they do stink when new. They have a vary STRONG chemical plastic smell, this may be a factor for anyone who is sensitive to smells or working in a confined space. After laying out for several days they still have a strong smell, and I can actually smell them while I'm wearing them. (Minus Half Star for what may be chemical off-gassing).Except for the criticims above, they are good knee pads. They should work just fine for roofers, flooring installers, and tradesman. but they may not be the best choice for an artisan or someone who demands the absolute best.
