These banana plugs are nice quality and so easy to use.Each banana comes in 3 parts - the barrel, the connector and the connecting screw. Essentially you run a small amount of exposed copper into the connector, tighten the connecting screw, and then screw on the barrel and you have a fitted speaker-cable end. It's easy and fast and holds together very well.The kit comes with the correct distribution of black and red banana plugs and an appropriately-sized screwdriver for terminating the cable. When done you'll have a rock-solid connection for great connectivity.I've tested this into components as diverse as Marantz, D'agostino, Sonus faber, Paradigm and even Wilson audio to insure that the banana fit well. It did in every case, so it has high compatibility. These are an excellent value and a quality connection.

I'm quite happy with Sewells's speaker cables. I got two pairs of 50ft in 12 and 10 AWG. So I figured I'd give these a shot and they've also worked out nicely. I'm normally not a fan of this style of banana plug. It's too easy for the inner set screw to back itself out when shook in shipping leaving the outer housing to be unable to unscrew over it. Between my more dinky 6.1 in the family room setup, (the misses doesn't really care about surround sound) my main 7.1.4 man cave setup, (lol I DO care) and the 7.1 I made for my folks, I've lost track now how many different sets like these I've gotten where at the very least one of them would be unusable because of that. That wasn't an issue with these. I especially like how they're bigger than any of the others I've tried. There's zero issue using them with 10 AWG speakers cables unlike some of the others that said they could fit that gauge really REALLY had to be cranked down to get them in enough that the outer housing could fit back over them. One of which actually made me partially break off part of the slot on the screw head since I had to crank it down so much. They fit my Denon AVR nicely. Not too loose which is a definite issue but also not too tight that they're hard to plug in which is just an annoying issue. Build quality seems good. I can't think of anything to complain about here so it's an easy 5 stars to justify.

I’ve owned many different speakers and worked in AV for decades and I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t work for most applications. My experiences range from top of the line Audioquest products to mainstream Monster Cable, and newcomers in the field like Sewell and Blue Jean cables, and others. I can safely say that these fall somewhere in the middle of the pack, being neither the best, nor the worst and having some of the characteristics of both.The good: these have a solid construction and offer a very secure connection in your amplifier and speakers. These actually stay more firmly than my previous Sewell banana plugs and their design is much more slim and easy to install in the tight, crowded space behind a receiver. The knurled finish provides a positive grip when installing or removing them with your fingertips, and the length is good allowing close fitment to the back of your cabinet and components. Continuing with the build quality, these have a solid feeling construction without feeling overly heavy. It feels like a full metal construction, but it is advertised that the outer shell is non conductive, preventing accidental shorting. Because of the firm connection both to the wire and in the ports, these provide good transfer of audio signals to the speakers and no extra noise from nearby components.The bad: the plugs themselves come without any instructions at all and disassembly was not intuitive, as removal of the outer shell required turning the body clockwise instead of counter clockwise. Two of my set screws were just floating around inside of the box when I received it and were liable to fall out with the slightest opening of the side. Luckily one piece of tape kept the end of the box closed enough to prevent this from happening. I would have appreciated two set screws per plug for better hold on the wire, and because of the narrow profile, these may not fit thicker wires or even ones with many very fine strands well. I am using Audioquest speaker wire which features thicker conductors but my monster cable feels like it would slide out of the grip of the one little set screw.I’ll continue to use these because they fit my cabinet better than the giant Audioquest plugs I previously used, and I’ll report back if they develop any sort of oxidation or tarnish like the silver plugs from Audioquest did. Aside from that, for the price, I’m happy to have such a firm connection but I wouldn’t say this design is ideal. A second set screw would likely provide a little more secure hold on the wire and wouldn’t add much to the overall size of the plug.

If you want to build a speaker connection that is absolutely going to outlast the house, these banana plugs are overkill in the absolute best way possible. They completely toss out the flimsy, cheap design you usually get with generic connectors and replace it with something incredibly heavy-duty.The way these lock down your speaker wire is seriously impressive because you get three separate layers of security to keep your signal perfect. First, you feed your bare copper into the terminal and crank it down tight with a mechanical set-screw using the handy little flat-head screwdriver they include. Then, if you're the type who wants a completely permanent, uncompromising electrical bond, there's a solder channel right there so you can melt some solder over the wire after it's screwed down. To wrap it all up, you spin on the heavy-duty aluminum outer shell, leaving you with a clean, professional finish that won't accidentally pull apart or short out against the back of your receiver.Now, at twenty-five dollars for a ten-pair pack, these definitely aren't the budget option. If you're just hooking up a basic little bookshelf stereo with thin wire, they're probably way more than you need. But if you're an AV professional running custom lines or an audiophile piecing together a high-end home theater meant to last for decades, the quality makes them worth every penny. Between the premium feel of the threaded aluminum, the included tool, and the brilliant choice to let you both screw and solder the wire, these are just fantastic for any custom install where you never want to worry about a loose connection again.

For many years, I would just twist the tips of my speaker wires and connect them to my speakers using the screw down post. Sometimes I'd tin them, usually not. It took decades to appreciate the utility of banana plugs. I've now got Sewell banana plugs on five different sound systems. Sewell makes a variety of types. There's this type, which is slender, and uses a screw in the barrel to secure the wire. There's a fatter barrel shaped type where the tip screws off and on to secure the wire. I'm using three or four different types, all made by Sewell. In every case, they're plugs of very good quality. This set was packed in an especially well. They are attractive and subtle in appearance with subdued color coding, and the barrel screw is a bit more secure than the fatter screw tip model. A set of these will help you power 7 speakers, a complete surround system or multiple stereo systems. While all of the Sewell products I'm using, banana plugs and prefabricated cables with banana plug tips, are great, these are my favorite so far. You can't go wrong.

I recently completed installing new flooring in my home. The family room is where we watch TV and listen to music. While I had the baseboards off, I took the opportunity to increase the gap between the drywall and the concrete floor. The purpose being to tuck all the 5.1 surround speaker wires and Ethernet cables in that gap when the baseboards were reinstalled. No more wires laying on the floor and all around the walls! It is so worth the effort.Part of that effort included adding banana plugs to the speaker wires connected to my Onkyo receiver. At the time, the ends were tinned and connected that way. An audiophile friend strongly suggested I put banana plugs on my wires and suggested Sewell's Deadbolt banana plugs where the wires are not tinned. Instead, you splay the loose wires over the plug and screw the cover on. I was not aware of these tinned grub screw plugs also made by Sewell at that time.With these plugs, I could have pushed my tinned wires into the plug as is and secured them with the included grub screws. Sewell even includes a cute little flat bladed screwdriver for the grub screws. This version of banana plug would have made much more sense and saved me a ton of time.I have found both versions of Sewell's banana plugs to fit well, and work well with a more secure connection. They look much better than the way my speaker wires were connected before.
