Hurricane Straps Tie Brackets

Screws are kinda cheesy, but they do work and there’s enough of them. Still give it 5 stars because it’s cheaper than the big box stores and they oook good in black. Used them on my lean to shed behind my garage.

These straps came quickly and as advertised. As others have said, the screws that came with them were tiny and not really usable. Went in easy enough. Good product

These straps are for light duty work only. I really would not consider them for any structural application other than decorative with a minimal holding capacity with the included screws. The included screws are extremely tiny. Not something I’ve ever seen for Structural work. You need to replace all the screws if you want these straps to really be functional. The best way I would describe these straps is if you want to add a little bit of strapping, and have them be decorative. Then you have a black strap and a black screw.

I've been using Simpson hurricane straps for years and am a fan of the design. These hurricane straps are identical in design and shape with the only difference being a slight color variation in the galvanized hue and I think these are just ever so slightly thinner. I wouldn't describe these as thin or cheap and I think they're a great alternative to the more expensive brand sold at the big box hardware stores. This set of hurricane straps comes with included screws but they are comically small and there is nowhere on the planet where code would allow them to be used. I would recommend using either framing nails or the simpson #9 or #10 hurricane tie bolts to affix these to your framing.

Since I am using these in the basement of my home, where there will never be any sort of wind experience down there (hopefully!), these will work fantastic for affixing my joists to the ceiling caps of the rooms I am building down there. With a quantity of 30, I will have enough to complete one large room's ceiling, and they even include the screws, which is a huge bonus (notice that their verbiage on the order page is for multiple versions of a product, so individual quantities and thicknesses will depend on what you order) . The pieces are all very uniform is shape, and are powder coated for both protection and aesthetics (if left exposed). One error on their order page states that the 1.2mm thickness version is 16ga, but that would require it to be 1.5mm thick to meet that designation. Being that these are truly 1.2mm thick means that these are rated at 18ga in thickness.

These brackets appear to be well-manufactured with consistent bends and a durable protective coating. The steel feels substantial and should provide excellent reinforcement. All mounting holes are cleanly punched and consistently aligned, making installation straightforward. These are on the thinner side, but worked well for what I used them for.

These are mega heavy duty brackets, I don't have a way to measure them to see if they are 13 gauge but your not going to take them and bend with your hand without a tone a pressure. The screws that come with them are kind of a joke, not at all what you want to use, get the tico or joist hanger nails.These brackets look like they have very good galvanizing applied and are the proper size with the standard 5 holes per top and bottom of the bracket.Overall price is fair, being just a 10pk is limiting and wish they had deals on quantity like 100pk but they are a very well made tie strap.

Items like this can be hard to properly review: I would need to install them and wait for a catastrophic wind event to occur to properly evaluate how well they mitigate wind damage. That's beyond the scope of what I can do here, so instead what I'll do is compare them against other competing products to see how they stack up. The industry leader is SImpson Strong-Ties, so first let's consider these against those.Price per unit: roughly the same, with these JimXiaLia brand ties just a little bit less expensive per unit.Screws Included: Yes, with JimXiaLia. No for Simpson strong-ties. This adds a lot of value into the bottom line for these.Material thickness: For both, they're 18 gauge (1.2mm thick).Corrosion resistant coating: Roughly identical for both, although these are available in black powder coated, which I prefer.So working off these factors, these are as good or better than the competition. I ran the same comparison against other competitors available here on Amazon and found these to offer better price value than all of them.For those reasons I'm giving this 30 pack of hurricane straps a 4 star rating: they're an excellent value, they include mounting hardware, and their black powder coated finish looks great.I have removed 1 star because of numerous spelling and translation errors in the product information materials, some of which are extremely important and should be corrected immediately. As I write this, two of the product images (the 2nd and 3rd ones) incorrectly state these straps are made of 2.2mm thick steel. That should read 1.2mm, these are not 2.2mm, and elsewhere on the product page it does correctly list it as 1.2mm. But those two images say 2.2mm, and that's a big problem. Hopefully they'll get that fixed up before this product is released. Additionally, the product title states they are made of 16 gauge steel, but 16 gauge would actually be closer to 1.5mm, not 1.2mm. 1.2mm is 18 gauge steel. These are 18 gauge straps, not 16. Very important for that to be corrected.There are a couple other little typos and issues I noticed, and I'll list them below to try to help JimXiaLia:The product title says they're made by "JinXiaLai", but the listed manufacturer is "JimXiaLai", so I believe the "Jin" should be "Jim" in the product title.Second image says "Thickness: 2.2mm", that should read "Thickness: 1.2mm"Third image has numerous typos and grammatical errors: "Made of 2.2mm thick heavy duty steel - their sturdy much better than the light hurricane strap" should read "Made of 1.2mm thick heavy duty steel - they're sturdy, much better than light hurricane straps""Thicker black Layer - fully cower with heavy duty black coating rust and corrosion prevention" should read "Thicker black layer - fully covered with heavy duty black coating for rust and corrosion prevention""Pre-drilled o4 mm holes" should read "Pre-drilled 4mm holes""Nice-looking - nice thick metal and thelook of the black finish" should read "Nice Looking - Nice thick metal with the look of a black finish"It's likely that when you are reading this review, those issues will have already been corrected. It's especially important that they correct all references to this product as being made of 2.2mm thick steel, which only occurs within the images, and any references to being made of 16 gauge steel, which is not accurate. The product text info correctly lists the thickness as 1.2mm, which is what they are here (I checked mine with a digital caliper).
