I went to a window store to have a custom screen made and was shocked at the cost. Because of the high price, I decided to order the Hrboat 36" x 36" Window Screen Kit. This DIY replacement kit includes an aluminum frame, fiberglass mesh, and a full tool set that can be cut to fit homes, patios, and porches. It cost half the price of the window store.The package contained the following items:• 4 Aluminum frames• 4 Corner connectors• 2 Tension springs• 2 Pull tabs• 144" of rubber-type spline• 1 Spline tool• A roll of fiberglass screen mesh• A sharp but fragile utility knife• A ribbon-type tape measureAssembly was easy. All I needed was a metal-cutting saw, a marker, and a miter box. I cut the frames to the correct size, taking into consideration the corner connector width. Since each connector is ¾", I multiplied that by two and subtracted 1.5" from the desired length and width of the original frame dimensions.After cutting the frames as close to a 90-degree angle as I could get using the miter box, it was just a matter of assembling the pieces. The corner connectors fit the frame snugly and tightly, and the supplied spline tool made it easy to insert the spline into the groove. At first, I forgot to add the pull tabs, which are supposed to be installed prior to the spline. After fixing that, I finished installing the rest of the screen and spline, making sure the frame was squared up at all corners. I did not use the supplied tension springs because my present window frame has a different locking system to hold the screen frame.The one con I see is that the frame is not as heavy-duty as the original one which made it kind of flimsy . However, it only took me about half an hour to assemble, and it saved me half the cost of a custom-made screen from the store.

This window screen replacement kit comes with everything you need to replace or add a screen to a window. It does not need any existing hardware or screen tools. You still might need a hacksaw or other frame cutting method but that's it. They even include a blade for cutting the screen and a tape measure! The kit includes 4 pieces of frame up to 3' long each, 1 screen up to 3' x 3', spline material, spline roller, corner brackets, retention springs, and handles. Everything you need is truly included! The most difficult part of this job is cutting the frame which you will need to do if your window is anything less than 3' x 3' in size. At a minimum you would need a hacksaw and probably a miter box to perform this cut. Once the frame is cut to size, adding the screen and securing it with the spline is relatively easy process. The end result looks great and fits great. The screen functions as expected, keeping insects out but allowing fresh air to flow in. The instructions provided are in color and fairly good and easy to follow. This kit makes this DIY project doable and saves you a bunch of money in the process.
