Needed this after we took down an old 3.5” smoke detector and were left with an ugly hole in the ceiling. This 5” steel cover plate hid it completely. When we purchased our home 32 years ago it had a ceiling fan on the front porch. We removed the fan and covered the remaining hole and box. Since my ceiling has a very flat finish, you can still notice the slight gloss of the metal plate if you're looking for it, but it still looks much better than an exposed electrical box.In my case, the cover doesn't sit completely flush because I have molding very close to the opening, but that's due to my installation location rather than the product itself.
