This was my third try at installing a lock on a wooden chest with a hidden gun rack. This one worked and appears to be good quality. I had lost the keys to the original so I needed to replace it.This could work on a toolbox, mailbox, or camper storage door. Although a minimum security lock, this is a heavy-duty replacement kit. It should resist rust outdoors, although that’s not how I’m using it.The kit includes five interchangeable locking cams/plates (straight, hooked, and bent) as well as all the hardware needed. The different cams eliminates a lot of the trial-and-error that can come with ordering the wrong size lock arm. That said, you still need to measure everything correctly to make sure the shaft length you’re buying is correct. Make sure to carefully double-check your door panel thickness before picking this size. This 1-1/2 inch cylinder length is meant for thicker panels up to 1-3/8 inches. If you are mounting to a very thin sheet-metal mailbox or file cabinet, you might want to look at their shorter 5/8-inch option instead.The cylinder operates smoothly with a standard 90-degree turn, and it is non-key retaining, meaning you can pull the key out whether the lock is turned to the open or closed position.It fits perfectly into standard 3/4-inch mounting holes, making it a drop-in replacement for most factory-installed utility locks.Keep the extra cams in your spare parts bin. If you ever move the lock to a different style drawer down the road, you will already have the hardware to adapt it.

I'd never replaced a lock like this before, so I was disappointed that the pieces just arrived by themselves with no instructions, not even a picture about how it should be assembled. I had to go back and find the Amazon listing and hunt through the pictures, then piece together info from two separate pictures to even have a high-level idea of how to do it. If you're a DIYer you could probably do it blindfolded, but not all of us are.The quality of the metal seems fine; it feels solid and durable. The key fits perfectly and turns easily, and the lock itself fits the hole in my cabinet correctly, based on the measurements in the listing. I'm happy with the value, too - you get a good quality product for a great price ($8.99 when I ordered mine). It would've been really easy to merit a 5 star rating if they could just include a simple sheet of paper that tell how it should be installed.

This lock is fairly sturdy. There were no instructions, but I was able to install it based on the broken lock I was replacing. It does work to lock the cabinet that I installed in. However it is pretty flimsy.
