I am new to welding and needed some sort of protection while building projects. When it first arrived, I opened the package and felt the material. This is not a cheap feeling apron but rather a sturdy, solid barrier between you and the sparks. It fit me a little big, mostly because I am short, but other wise covers me well. The buckles on the back are easy to use and undo when taking it on and off. There is a nice, large pocket on the front to put stuff while you are working. The half sleeves to expose my arms to some degree but they also give me freedom of movement when prepping so it's a toss up. The collar secures nicely and keeps my neck covered as well. Overall, this is a great apron for me and is worth the money.

Let me tell you about welding. Welding is fun. Welding is also tiny angry stars flying at your body. Little bits of molten metal that leap off the work and go looking for skin. My skin. They love my skin. They think it is a landing pad.We are building a family lodge. The whole thing is metal. A metal building. Big beams. Long panels. So much welding. So many joints to fuse together. It is a giant project and I am the one holding the torch. That means I am the one the sparks target all day long.Before this apron, I welded in a regular shirt. That was a mistake. A big one. The sparks found me instantly. They burned little holes in everything. My shirt looked like moths held a party on it. I had tiny burns on my arms. I smelled like a campfire every night. It was not a good look.So I bought this leather welding apron. Cowhide. Twenty four inches by forty one inches. Big enough to cover most of me. Heat resistant. A real buckle strap. It arrived and it felt serious. Thick. Heavy. It felt like armor for a very specific medieval knight. A knight who welds.

I do some metal grinding work and my son-in-law has a laser-cutting machine. The sparks generated can easily start a fire. The fire retardant apron is just the answer. The leather is thick enough for protection and the high neck design is a plus for neck protection. It also has a large front pocket. The upper buckle is too high and difficult to snap in. However, the high neck Velcro should be able to secure the apron without using the upper buckle.
