White Ceramic Utility Knife Blades

I had some questions about using ceramic blades in my leather and nylon work.Would the ceramic hold up? Will the ceramic break/shatter? Will it perform better than a steel box blade? Will it fit into a standard everyday box cutter housing?The blades are safely packaged in a semi-firm case. I found none to be chipped or broken.I found that the blades fit snugly into several different designs of cutting blade retainers/handles. Very little to no wiggle room.I found the ceramic edge to be superior to simple box cutter blades, not as sharp as a scalpel, but sharp enough to cut/split cleanly before you feel it. For my initial use/testing, I did not sharpen the blades as I would a steel blade prior to use. The blades are clean, with no oil or residue that I could identify.These strike me as being semi-precision craft blades and not a daily-use box-cutting blade.For testing, I used 6- 7 oz leather scrap, dry and hard.The ceramic blade cleanly cut through the leather with little resistance and clean lines. Making curved cuts was also clean and smooth.After 30+ cuts of 6 inches or more, I did not sense that there was a performance loss or dulling of the edge. That is not to say that the edge will remain sharp, as with all edged tools and accessories, at some point all edged devices need sharpening.The cutting edge on the ceramic blade continued in good working order after several cuts, beyond what is expected from a sharpened and honed steel box blade could.I finally did destroy a couple of the blades to see what kind of force would be required to break the ceramic blade. I dropped one several times onto my granite plate, several six-ish-foot drops. It did not break, but it did acquire several chips along the edge, nothing that a proper sharpening could not fix.I did snap one in half, but the ceramic blade shattered into several small pieces at the break point. I utilized pliers to snap the blade.I advise extreme caution while working with these ceramic blades, and I have a couple of nicks to explain why.I am more than happy with the ceramic blades' performance and will be using these blades in my leatherwork.

These blades are really sharp! I've compared them to regular razor blades fresh out of the pack and they seem to glide through cardboard more easily than the metal blades. I haven't broken any of them yet, but I know that they would likely shatter if I dropped the knife directly onto the tip or try to pry anything with them - they won't completely replace metal blades for this reason, sometimes I have cutting tasks that can be really abusive to the blade. I've been cutting a lot of boxes and tape, and it doesn't seem to have lost its edge. I'll give them a try the next time I have to cut leather and update the review, but so far, so good!

BE CAREFUL! They're sharp! Jokes aside, these will cut you faster than metal blades. At least at first.So the good:1. SUPER sharp. I look at something with the blade in my hand, and it cuts. That's how it feels. Plastic and thin cardboard are pert near effortless to cut.2. They fit perfectly into anything using the standard blade format.3. Fairly sturdy. It wasn't until I was cutting some thick boxes up that I had an issue.4. Work GREAT with various plastics, foam boards, etc. Easily cut away wire stripping/wrapping.The BAD:1. They don't stay sharp as long as the metal blades. Maybe I'm too rough on them, but I lost that super edge on the first blade after a few days of light duty. Second blade started dulling after an afternoon of box cut downs.2. They are not as sturdy laterally. I snapped 2 rather quickly.3. They will chip if you hit something hard.I love ceramic blades. I use them in the kitchen, in my workshop too. Wife uses them in her studio. We've used them for almost 20 years now? So we're used to possible chips and not going laterally, etc. But this is the first time we've seen ceramic utility blades. LOVE the concept, but they are even more prone to breaking/chipping than standard knife blades.As long as you're careful, and use them for more "gentle" tasks that need that absolute eye-bleeding sharpness, these are PERFECT.

I recently picked up the 5-Pack of White Ceramic Utility Knife Blades, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed. Right out of the package, you can feel that these blades are razor sharp. I’ve used them for a few different projects, like opening boxes and cutting through some tougher materials, and they’ve performed really well.One of the standout features for me is that they seem to stay sharp longer than traditional metal blades. I’ve replaced a few blades in my utility knife, and I've noticed that I don’t have to switch them out as often. This is a big plus, especially when I'm in the middle of a project and want to keep things moving smoothly.The straight edge makes it easy to make clean cuts, and I appreciate the precision they offer. I also find that the white color makes it easier to spot any nicks or dullness as opposed to steel blades.Installation is straightforward, and they fit perfectly in my existing box cutter. I’d recommend these blades to anyone who does a lot of cutting or crafting. Overall, they do a great job and have definitely met my expectations. I will definitely be buying these again when I run out!

What I liked:- They're sharp. And they stay sharp.- Fits well in my Milwaukee flip blade utility knife.What needs improvement:- They're easily damaged by materials other than cardboard.- They're not a standard size! They didn't fit in the blade storage of my regular utility knife. And the blade protrudes even then the knife is fully closed. Yes, I installed it correctly. I checked twice.I'll keep these for slicing through cardboard, but I won't be buying more.

However, when tested side-by-side against a brand new, traditional steel blade on standard printer paper sheets, it is difficult to tell whether they offer any significant advantage in immediate sharpness.The real test for these blades will come down to longevity. If they manage to maintain this clean cutting edge significantly longer than steel without chipping, the upfront price premium will be fully justified.Overall, they are a high-quality, corrosion-free alternative to traditional utility blades that perform smoothly out of the gate. They are well worth considering if you want to avoid dealing with rusty blades, though time will tell if the long-term edge retention holds up to the investment.

I'm both a graduate degree'd engineer with a great appreciation for well designed tools and also the owner of a handyman business who uses his tools daily to earn a living. With that as background ...I use a utility knife virtually every workday, so I go through a lot of blades. Being the curious engineer type (you know the type) I've tried many different brands and blade designs over the years. I've tried a couple of brands of ceramic blades and many brands of steel blades, with some favorite brands emerging, but also a clear preference for material type based on the intended use.In the small utility knife I carry in my pocket at all times I keep a ceramic blade, like these Thremic blades. Ceramic blades are more expensive, but last much longer cutting cardboard and paper, which is the primary use for my EDC pocket utility knife. These are literally razor sharp when new and stay that way incredibly long when cutting paper, cardboard, wood, plastic, rubber, etc ... Thremic's item description states these blades have a hardness of 8.5 Mohs, which AI tells me is roughly equivalent to 65-67 on the more commonly quoted Rockwell Hardness scale (HRC). This is an extremely hard material, exceeding even the hardness of super hard premium knife steels, so it's no wander that it holds an edge fantastically well. The downside of this super hard material is that it isn't very "tough" in the technical engineering sense; i.e. it tends to chip, fracture and break when stressed. So, for my uses this is a great blade for cutting paper and the like, but I'd prefer something tougher (and less hard) in a general purpose blade. Thus the utility knife I carry in my toolbag used on handyman jobs has a cheap steel blade installed. It's just as sharp as these ceramic blades when new, but dulls *much* more quickly. On the plus though it can be used to scrape and cut materials that might have a staple of other small metal debris in it without chipping or breaking. Being super cheap I just replace whenever they get dull.For a utility knife that's primarily used as a box cutter or letter opener these ceramic blades are fantastic and will be surprisingly sharp for an exceptionally long time. In more general purpose use be careful of chipping or breaking the blade, as they are noticeably more brittle (less tough) than steel blades.
