I build a lot of miscellaneous carts for my two band rooms out of wire shelving units. One of the biggest challenges is that many times I only want a half height cart, so the upper half of the upright poles gets wasted since the casters only fit the inserts on the lower half of the pole.These nifty casters solved that problem, as they can insert into many standard sizes of poles-- be sure to measure what you have, and then you can change the insert.Using the shelving sets that are typically sold at my local Warehouse club, I found that the pre-installed rubber inserts were almost perfect, but they were getting caught on something on the inside of the pole. The smaller inserts were much too small, otherwise I could have switched to those. My solution was to carve off a little bit around the leading edge of each rubber insert so that it could slip past, then to gently hammer it in using great care to not damage the caster wheel. Once I got the insert all the way in, a quick tightening of the lock nut made these feel very secure. Glad that I finally can use up more of the extra uprights that I have. I will probably need to buy a few more sets of these.

I’m giving these 4 stars because they are exactly as advertised and perfectly functional, but they’re better suited for lighter shelving than heavy rolling units. They’re not the heavy duty expanding stem casters I had hoped for, and the photo helps explain why.In the left of the photo is the 3" caster from this listing. It’s not a true expanding stem caster but a converted threaded stem design with a small nut and washer added on top to imitate the expanding style. Once you notice that tiny nut and washer setup, it’s hard to unsee it. That washer becomes the main support point for the pole, and it’s a weak spot that can warp under heavier loads or uneven floors. Think of this as the caster equivalent of walking in high heels and twisting an ankle.On the right is a true heavy duty expanding stem caster. It has a full compression sleeve inside the post, a thick nylon thrust washer at the much larger swivel plate, a heavy knurled expansion nut, and the tightening hardware built directly into the caster body. The brake is strong, the engagement is deep, and the load transfers into the post the way it’s supposed to.After using the heavy duty version on my shelving, this 3" caster feels more like a light duty option. I should have paid closer attention to the product photos and construction. The threaded stem itself is stronger than the makeshift expanding setup, but the washer limits how much weight I’d trust on it.My heavy duty casters cost the same and are dramatically stronger, safer, and more stable.If you’re building tall or heavy wire shelving, the difference isn’t subtle. Your entire load sits on a washer.Technically the product matches the product description as long as you know what you’re getting.

This is a great kit. It is able to be fitted into at least 3-4 tube diameters of many tables and other furniture with a hollow tube. It has great accesories bag labeling, and easy to follow instructions. It even has the tools to complete the job, right out of the box.

This set of four caster wheels are designed to mount into non-threaded pipe. The stems use one of the five different diameter rubber tubes, that compress by tightening the two nuts on each end of the stem. This causes the grommet to expand its diameter and holds the caster wheels to the tube, thereby eliminating the need for threads like other casters. This compression design allows you to use these caster wheels in more shelves, tables, utility carts, etc. including home-built devices. I got the 2-inch wheeled casters without brakes. The wheels are made from plastic with a non-marring outer polyurethane material; each wheel can hold 125 pounds. The wheel uses ball bearings in both the wheel and in the stem/spindle for smooth operation. The kit comes with two wrenches which are the only tools you should need for installation/removal.To install, select one of the five rubber grommets that is nearest to the inner diameter of the tube you want to mount the wheels in, they should be *smaller* than the ID of the tube. Note that one of the grommets are already pre-installed into the stem, you need to remove that one if you want a different diameter. Also note that there is a smaller set of nuts included in the kit, for use with the smaller diameter grommets. Install the large washer, then the grommet and finally the nut onto the stem. Tighten the top nut until it just starts to compress the grommet. Insert the stem with the grommet into the tube as far as you can. Tighten the bottom nut, which compresses the grommet and grips the ID of the tube. Continue tightening until the stem is secure in the tube, do not overtighten, just enough so you can't pull out the caster assembly from the tube.The price is excellent considering the quality of the material and workmanship.
