Working outdoors on job sites and then jumping back into dark garages or client homes used to mean constantly switching between tinted sunglasses and clear safety glasses. Putting on these photochromic safety glasses eliminated that hassle entirely—the lenses darken smoothly out in bright sunlight and fade clear again as soon as I walk back indoors. What Works Great:* Seamless indoor-outdoor transition: The light-adjusting lenses eliminate the need to carry two separate pairs of glasses, shifting automatically depending on sunlight exposure.* Complete peripheral coverage: Built-in side shields and full UV400 protection keep wind, flying debris, and harsh glare from sneaking in through the sides.* Impact-rated peace of mind: Certified to high-velocity impact standards, so you get genuine job-site safety combined with a stylish, everyday look.* Light and tough frame: Built with a flexible, high-durability frame that feels almost weightless on your ears, preventing pressure points during full day shifts.Where It Falls Short:* Slower transition indoors: While the lenses darken quickly in bright outdoor light, they take a few extra minutes to fade completely back to clear when walking into darker spaces.* Won't darken behind car windshields: Since most modern auto glass blocks UV light, the photochromic tint won't fully activate while driving inside a car or truck.* Side shields add minor bulk: The side protection works fantastically for safety, but it makes the frames slightly wider than traditional lifestyle sunglasses.Key Features:* Auto-darkening photochromic lenses with UV400 protection* ANSI high-impact safety certification* Integrated protective side shields* Lightweight, durable frame construction* Smudge and oil-resistant lens coatingOverall Value:If you need real job-site impact protection without constantly swapping eyewear as light conditions change, these glasses deliver huge practical convenience. The automatic tinting and lightweight frame make them well worth the investment for outdoor workers and DIYers alike.

Safety glasses for work and sunglasses for hiking

These are actually very light and they fit very comfortably, they are super clear and work great when working on your car although they don’t really get dark at all so that definitely makes them not great value for it advertising that but overall I do enjoy using them, just wish they’d get darker.

These are a little tight on my head. I do have a fairly large head, 7 and 5/8 hat size, so I understand they probably fit most people. The photochromic feature is very nice and the sole reason I wanted these. It's very nice to not have to switch glasses when you go in and out on those sunny days or forget to switch and be blinded one way or the other. I go in and out of the shop to the yard a lot so this is huge for me. Very sturdy construction. They look a lot like regular seeing glasses as opposed to more stylish like sunglasses. The 87 plus protection level gives me good confidence for my eyes. These are very clear with almost no distortion which makes them a good value because often times at a lower price point quality suffers.

Comfortable to wear all day unlike most safety glasses. They look great people are always asking where I got them. Durable, cover eyes well

The glasses provide good optic clarity and fast photochromic transition between clear and tinted. It works perfect as shooting glasses for both indoor and outdoor.

I picked these up for working around the house and in the garage, and they've been excellent. One of the biggest advantages is the photochromic lenses. Instead of switching between clear safety glasses indoors and tinted ones outside, these automatically adjust to the lighting conditions. It's surprisingly convenient when you're moving back and forth between the garage, backyard, and inside the house. The transition works well. Indoors, the lenses stay clear enough that I don't feel like I'm wearing sunglasses, and once I'm outside they gradually darken to reduce the glare. They won't get as dark as dedicated sunglasses, but they provide a comfortable level of tint for general outdoor work.Comfort is another strong point. The TR90 frame is lightweight enough that I can wear them for extended periods without them becoming uncomfortable or constantly sliding down my nose. The side shields also do a good job keeping dust and debris from reaching your eyes without obstructing your peripheral vision.I also have to admit they look a lot cooler than your typical bulky safety glasses. They have more of a sporty sunglasses appearance, so I don't feel like I'm wearing oversized shop goggles. That makes me much more likely to actually put them on whenever I'm working outside or using power tools. The lenses stay cleaner than I expected. The anti-smudge coating helps reduce fingerprints and sweat marks, so I'm not constantly wiping them off while working.Knowing they're ANSI Z87+ rated also gives me confidence when using power tools, working in the garage, or doing yard work. It's nice having proper impact protection without sacrificing comfort or visibility.Overall, these are a great value. They provide solid eye protection, automatically adjust to changing light conditions, are comfortable enough for all-day wear, and eliminate the need to carry multiple pairs of safety glasses. As an added bonus, they actually look good enough that you won't mind wearing them, which isn't something I can say about most safety goggles.

At the time of this review, the VETRA X Z87+ Photochromic Safety Glasses are listed for $46.90 and were available for $42.21 with a coupon. These are definitely a premium set of safety glasses. The feature that really sets them apart is the photochromic lenses, which darken automatically when you go outside. That makes them ideal if you regularly move between indoor and outdoor work, or if you live somewhere like the Pacific Northwest where the lighting can change dramatically throughout the day.I wear safety glasses whenever I use my string trimmer or edger. I have thrown a rock through a window before, and I have been hit in the face and head plenty of times by rocks, gravel, and flying plant debris. Normally I have to choose between clear safety glasses or tinted ones. Clear glasses can be uncomfortable on bright days, while dark lenses can make it difficult to see when it is only slightly overcast. These adjust to the conditions, and I found the medium tint to be just about perfect. They also come with a very nice storage case that includes belt loops, a pocket clip, and a carabiner. A microfiber cleaning cloth that doubles as a storage pouch is also included. The lenses are rated to block 99.9% of UV light, and they fit my larger head very comfortably. They also look more like a nice pair of everyday glasses than typical bulky safety glasses. My only real complaint is the price. They are expensive enough that I will probably be extra careful with them instead of treating them like my inexpensive clear safety glasses.Overall, these are excellent safety glasses. The photochromic lenses work well, the fit is comfortable, and the included accessories are a nice bonus.I do recommend them.
