Before it was cool to do so, my husband and I turned our basement into a dwarven keep for our DnD room. I thought these plate covers would fit perfectly – with a little painting. They do, except they won’t fit most of the plugs without cutting them. Most of our basement plugs were placed too close to a cement ledge, requiring the bottoms of even normal plates to be cut. No way am I going to cut off one of the best parts of these faceplates. I’ll find other wall plugs in the house.I was never Goth. Actually, Goth didn’t come along until I was out of college. It’s an aesthetic I appreciate, though. These wall covers represent the part of Goth I especially like – particularly the design on the bottom edges that looks like ragged filigree. This might be a deviation from Goth, but the all-black color doesn’t work for me. What does work, is it gave me the opportunity to be creative and add some blood-red color to the edges. It painted easily and holds the paint. Because I like this kind of painting, the plain boring all black is a bonus for me.One issue with all the intricate designs is that they are made of deep and complex grooves. This might look great, but as my husband pointed out, it’s also a great dust collector. On the plus side, dust and spider webs only add to the ambiance the plates bring. The plates are made of substantial and thick material. They’ll last. The one “what were they thinking” issue I have with this product is the screws for the plates are painted white. Let me repeat this. The screws to hold a BLACK faceplate are painted WHITE. What kind of company makes such a cool faceplate and doesn’t think maybe they should provide a screw that matches. Oh, well. I have paint.Almost eighteen dollars seems a little high for faceplates, but these are the first specialty plates I’ve gotten. Art does, or should, cost extra. If they fit an aesthetic – like our gaming room – the price is certainly good for an otherwise well-made plate. Well, except for the screw.
