What a great idea! These 30 PCs Metal Screw Roof Caps/Screw Covers for Protecting Screw Heads Easy to Install for Leak Prevention have been a huge help in stopping the leaks of our metal shop. Shortly after buying our property 7 years ago, we discovered that the shop was leaking… but not until a lot of the insulation was ruined before it collapsed under the weight of the trapped water. It was a mess. We tried changing out the screws, but while it helped, there was still some leakage. I had never seen this type of screw cap until it showed up on my Amazon Vine feed. We need to order more to finish the job, but where these caps were installed, the leaking was stopped. For us, having already replaced all the screws and the little rubber gasket that goes with metal roofing screws, half of the job was already done. The screws heads were scrubbed with denatured alcohol and steel wool to get a clean surface. A generous dollop of a special type of roofing sealant was applied to the screw heads. Then a cap was pushed down over the wet caulk forming a fresh seal and given a light tap with a rubber mallet to make sure it was securely cover the screw heads. These are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the cost of new insulation. I am not sure how long they’ll last. Not sure about the long term durability. It’s only been a month. But in the meantime, these are a valuable addition to the upkeep of the shop.

Do you love you metal roof? We do and we love this extra protection. I have fixed many metal roofs leaks around the screw mounts. The rubber grommet on these screws ages (quicker than youd think) and become brittle especially when sitting in the full sun day after day. It’s bound to happen. When it does the small water leaks and rots out the wood underneath. If you’re luckily you catch it early but if not its a pain to remove a metal panel and patch the subroof. Just use these and solve the problem. It’s an easy install and will add a ton of life. Pro tip: Keep in mind ‘neutral-cure’ silicone is best for these caps because they maintain long-term flexibility and have UV resistance. Look at brands like DAP 100% Silicone Roof Sealant or GE Supreme. Look for labels that state "Neutral Cure" (sometimes listed as "Non-Corrosive" or "Safe for Metals"). Avoid "Acetoxy" or "Acid-Cure" silicone (which smell like vinegar), as the acetic acid released during curing can corrode metal fasteners and potentially void roof warranties. Pro tip2: Dont press too hard when sealing. You do not want to push-out all the sealant so it’s better to use a lighter touch and keep a good ring of sealant. I used these caps on my cabana's metal roof to prevent leaks, and they worked out perfectly. They were incredibly simple to install, just placed some silicone and laid them right over the existing fasteners. It gives me great peace of mind knowing the screw heads are sealed and I won't have any leaks inside and down my rafters. My roof is Brown so I spray painted them before using them to match.

These will do what you ask of them but they are unusually large. I assumed they would be slightly larger than my existing metal roof screws. The are larger than a US quarter.These are essentially glue down umbrellas for the screw heads that require caulk to stick. I can't argue that keeping the caulk under the caps will keep the sun off them so in that regard it is clever. It was actually a bit slower than pulling and replacing the existing screws with fresh neoprene washers.Due to the size I hit them each with a shot of spray paint (my metal roof is green) before installation. I think they will help with those "which one drips?" riddles along the ridge cap.
