Easy DIY fix, just make sure to verify your model first!

[Color: Cartridge]
I picked up this replacement cartridge to fix our shower, and the installation was surprisingly smooth. I watched a quick YouTube video before starting, which made the whole swapping process easy to follow. Having the included tool and grease in the package was a huge bonus and made the job go much faster. The new part fits very well and completely solved our issue. My biggest piece of advice is to do a little research and double-check your old cartridge model before ordering. Faucet parts can look almost identical, so taking a moment to confirm your specific model will save you from potential fit problems.Once you verify your model number beforehand, this is a great replacement that gets your tub working again without needing to hire a plumber.

This was my second time replacing a MOEN shower cartridge, after previously working on another bathroom in my house. My first attempt was with a plastic aftermarket 1222 cartridge, which ended terribly and ultimately forced me to buy the OEM part.Based on the product details and reviews for this brass unit, I decided to give aftermarket options another try. The old cartridge came out smoothly using the removal tool. However, comparing the old unit to the new brass one, I noticed the top opening looked different. I panicked a bit but decided to proceed.Installation went fine, and I managed to secure the retainer pin, though the cartridge seemed to leave a negligibly narrow gap. Water didn't leak, but when turning on the shower, water flowed from both the shower head and the spout simultaneously. I ended up purchasing a new OEM cartridge to get the job done right, but I confirmed that the new OEM part shared the exact same top design as the brass unit.I later learned that Moen updated the 1222 design to help the stem slide smoothly without binding, prevent hydraulic lock during installation or removal, and ensure a snug fit.I understand this brass model uses that exact updated 1222 design, though I'm still not entirely sure why it didn't seat properly. In hindsight, I likely needed to push the brass stem further back to seat it completely.Ultimately, it didn't work out for me. That said, the brass cartridge is very solid, beautifully built, and has no obvious design flaws. My feelings are mixed: it could just be user error on my part, but I found it considerably more challenging to push all the way in for a proper flush fit.

Identical to a Moen 1222HD ValveIdentical to a Moen 1222HD Valve

As you can see from my Photos I have both a brand new OEM Moen 1222HD valve and this MBVCBWE Valve. The 1222HD is the Heavy Duty metal Version of the 1222 plastic valve. This is basically a 100% copy of a Moen 1222HD Valve and made with the same Brass Material. They are both almost identical in weight. I would give a slight edge to the Moen on surface polishing.I get about 5-6 years out of a Moen HD so I suspect this will be exactly the same. The price difference is huge between the two, the Moen is $69 and this one is $36.Quality wise I can see or feel no difference except that the Moen is pre packed with silicone grease inside and is therefore easier to turn while this one is has no grease inside and a bit harder to turn.Besides the Price the big selling point is the ability to repair this one by opening it and replacing the O-Rings. The problem is that I see no O-Ring kit available online. I also think that the Moen can be opened and repaired but they also do not sell an O-Ring kits.Overall this valve is fantastic deal, it is the same Moen quality but for almost half the price. I have never had a premature leaking issue with a 1222HD valve and I expect the same from this one.At this price I highly recommend it. I don't think I will be buying any more OEM Moen valves given the high price they charge for them.

Works fine with no issues

[Color: Cartridge]
Installation with this is the same as with any other similar cartridge, so getting the old one out is always harder than putting the new one in. A cartridge puller highly recommended as it will make the whole process a lot easier.I put this one next to a name branded one and it is virtually identical except for the brand stamp. And likewise it seems to work the same. I do like that it is brass which I believe will make it last longer than the plastic one it is replacing. Also, I did push the stem out to lubricate the interior gaskets as well as the outer gaskets. The parts are a snug fit and everything feels secure and solid. When you do this, make sure not to over lubricate the interior gaskets or they will turn too freely and the handle will not stay in place when you set the temperature you want.Overall, this seems like a good quality cartridge and I would recommend it.

[Color: Cartridge, Color: Cartridge]
This item is a replacement faucet cartridge equivalent with Moen Posi Temp 1222 cartridge. The brand is MBVCBWE and is made in China. The cartridge comes well packaged in a box and is surrounded by foam packing. It is in a sealed bag with a plastic cartridge tool. There is a small pack of silicon grease included. There is a full color photo instructions manual for rebuilding the cartridge. There is no retention clip included in the package, however. This item is listed as equivalent to the Moen 1222 cartridge. However, it is more comparable to the heavier duty version Moen cartridge, 1222HD. Unlike the Moen 1222, this cartridge has a higher quality brass body instead of plastic. The external gaskets look high quality. The body casting looks good. The fit as finish is great.Although the current Moen 1222 cartridge in my shower is still working, I requested this item as a backup. I have no doubt this cartridge will not leak. It is higher quality than the Moen 1222, and is a fraction of the price. This is a very good value.

Great value for the price! We were comparing different cartridges at the hardware store, including name brand and third party, and this was about the same price as the third party but full brass instead of plastic. Very impressed with the quality of this one and how much sturdier it seems.Came assembled and included silicone grease which helped with the installation process. There’s an included black plastic piece for using with pliers, but we had an extractor tool on hand which we ended up using instead to get it installed. The version of this replacement we got did not come with the tool, and if you don’t already have one then I’d recommend getting the version which does include the extractor.Absolutely perfect fit once we got it in the pipe all the way, and inserted the pin to lock it in place. Got the water turned back on and NO LEAKS! Works perfectly! The old one had our faucet leaking and this one creates a good seal and not even a drip once the handle is turned to off. Speaking of handle, it spins so much easier now. The mechanics on this spin and glide so smooth.Only time will tell how the o-rings hold up, but as of right now we’re very happy and our shower is fixed! Super happy we were able to do it ourselves, saved a ton of money!

Packaged well. Installed easily and works fine. Time will tell. Seems to be well built and similar to the one from Moen.

Great quality BRASS 1222 Cartridge. Worlds apart from plastic ones.Great quality BRASS 1222 Cart...

[Color: Cartridge, Color: Cartridge]
I have replaced 1222 shower cartridges a few times over the years. In the past, I always used the cheap plastic ones. But every time, you have to change out a plastic one, you need to use a special tool. Even with the special removal too, the plastic ones get brittle and fracture during removal. If you are lucky, they break into big pieces you can easily remove with a pair of needle nose pliers. If you are not lucky, they break into little pieces which are a pain to clean up. Later on I moved to original OEM Moen commercial brass 1222 valves and they make a world of difference, you can break the seal without a special tool (although having the tool helps). It always comes out in one piece and if you can find the right size O rings and washers, you can reuse the brass casing. They also turn smoother than the plastic ones. This MBVCBWE 1222 cartridge is the first I've seen non-OEM brass cartridge. It looks and feels almost exactly like the OEM. It turns smoothly and is very solid. It includes a pack of grease which is needed for install (tip: don't get the grease inside the mechanism, then the valve will turn TOO easily and be an issue.) I had to knock off one star because it was suppose to come with a retaining clip and it did not. It is not that big an issue because the old retaining clip can be reused, but if you say you include it, you should include it right? That said, this thing is half the price of an OEM and brass, so it's definitely worth it. Afterall, while you can save a bit with a plastic one, who wants to mess with these things all the time?
