The "5" spray patterns are really 3 patterns, but you can set the adjuster between 2 at a time, so they call it 5. The standard shower pattern is fine, and the shower head flows plenty of water, but all the individual streams are aimed to come together, so it creates a rather focused pattern. I would prefer they came straight out, or maybe a bit spread out as opposed to being focused together. The middle pattern is odd, it's a flat grouping of streams, like a line instead of a circle. It's just odd and I don't use it. The "mist" pattern I think is there to wake you up if you slip into a coma. The mist droplets lose any temperature a couple inches from the shower head, so it's an ice cold blast that spreads out far enough that if you're in the shower with it, you can't escape it. I can't fathom why they did this.All in all, the one setting is fine, and the shower head will likely live in the hall bathroom. It's fine, I don't feel the need to return it or throw it away, but I also don't feel the need to buy more for the other bathrooms.
