I ordered this solder to for my hobby of making Edison bulb chandeliers. I went through my last spool and found this super large option. A few observations from my experience thus far:1) I did not need most of the accessories in this assortment, so I cannot speak to the flux, etc. However, the metal cleaning steel wool-esque 'sponge' was amazingly effective at cleaning the soldering tip I often wipe on my pants or some fine 0000 sized steel wool. This version is much more loosely bound and thus easily engulfs the tip. Just watch out for your fingers, accordingly.2) So far, the tips I've used out of this kit effectively match those I was using before. If you blind A/B tested me, I likely couldn't tell you the difference. That's not a bad thing, it just means they work, which is nice.3) This spool is heavy. This is easily the largest spool Ive used. I'm used to 50-100 grams, so this was 5-10 times more wire. I don't think my brain processed that proportion when ordering this. While this is awesome in volume of what you get, holding this while working on a precise juncture was super cumbersome. Perhaps I'll cut some wire off next time and use that freestanding piece until it's gone and repeat as needed. I hate wasting things so the idea of throwing even tiny pieces of solder away once they get too close to the tip to be hand safe is something I internally resist. We shall see.4) What made #3 above so challenging in the beginning was how fast this solder goes. I realized in the middle of my first project that I'm used to 1.0mm wire, and this is 20% thinner at 0.8mm. That's a big gap. I inherently over-soldered my first few joints and ate up quite a bit of wire in the process. Just an FYI if you're a DIYer switching between wire widths with your order.5) What redeems #4 is that the thinner wire heats up faster and flows through your joint quicker. I was surprised at how early and easily the solder flowed through my braided wire, which normally takes a bit of time to heat up.Ultimately, if I can find a sweet spot where I maximize the solder flow to get things done more efficiently and thus use less of the wire while still getting a good hold I'll be stoked.

It is crazy how important good solder is. I thought it was more about the Iron until recently. I needed to do some soldering at work and this is the brand they had. It made everything so easy that I needed to buy this. I actually bought 3 rolls. One for my traveling kit. One for my office and one for my house. I can do better work with this and a bad iron than I can with a great iron and crappy solder.

I’ve been using the smaller 100g roll of this MAIYUM solder for a while and liked it enough that I was happy to get this larger 500g roll. This is inexpensive solder in the same price range as a lot of the cheap generic stuff I’ve used, but the difference in how it solders is pretty significant.The 63/37 solder melts and flows very easily, wets the wire and terminals well, and leaves clean, shiny joints. I use it mostly for RC electronics, including XT90 and EC5 connectors with 10 and 12 AWG wire, where having solder that flows well makes a big difference.I’ve used other inexpensive solder that takes more heat, smokes excessively, and leaves dull gray joints. I haven’t had those problems with this stuff. It flows cleanly and consistently and has worked very well even on larger connectors and heavy-gauge wire.The 500g roll is a much better value if you solder regularly. For inexpensive solder, I’ve been extremely happy with MAIYUM.

I've only used it to connect a couple 22awg wires between PCBs to add a light switch to a LED strip so far. It melted and flowed well without any additional flux. I don't have a lot of experience with electronic repair and consumables... just fixing the stuff around my house that breaks. I have repaired numerous electronics over the years, but I'm not running a repair shop or anything. I recently got a hot air station and replaced my drifting PS5 controller sticks with hall effect sticks and been wanting to possibly get into doing more repairs so I've been building out a workstation. This is a lot of solder for me, it will last a really long time.

This is good, all-around tin/lead solder. Basic stuff, with 1.8% Rosin.Much to my surprise I found it to flow better than I expected for a budget solder at not a budget price if I'm honest. You can get quality name brands for not a lot more. Would I order it again? Maybe, if it's on sale but not at retail.Fortunately, I'm using this for some copper artwork and not critical electronics and this works very well for that.

I was debating between 3 and 4 stars, so count this as 3.5. At full retail price, there is no reason to get this over Kester 44, which has 67/33 formula with resin flux core, but higher flux at 3.3% versus only 1.8% in this product. So if the price is the same get the trusted Kester. However if they offer coupon, and you end up somewhere 40-50% then you can get this for less critical jobs. If I’m fixing my $3000 electronics, I would just go to Kester, but if I’m doing the electric kettle, this is more than enough. Good news is 67/33 is still far superior to non-lead types and melts easier and sticks quicker.
