Poor quality control, tip slots not aligned with retainer bolt holes

[Size: 16inch-1PCS]
A simple miss alignment of a hole took this from a good inexpensive tool to almost useless. This would have been quite useful had they drilled the hole to hold one of the tips in the center of the grove. The one dividing arm is perfect. The slot and tip fit perfectly. The second arm has the slot centered but the hole for the retaining bolt is not centered in the slot. I have tried ever which way but Sunday to get the tip to sit in the slot and secure it. The tip ends up never aligning with the opposite tip. This is designed to be a somewhat precision tool. That will never happen with one tip not sitting properly in it groove. I will try making the hole slightly larger on one side to hopefully sit in its grove. How hard is it to drill a hole centered in a groove? Would have the potential of five stars if the quality control was better.

Amazing for the forge

[Size: 16inch-1PCS]
I'm in love with this extra large divider. It lets you work comfortably on circles up to 30" and transfer measurements perfectly up to about 15-16". It is as accurate as you are, if you tighten the included set screw down, the two limbs do not move. That means if you can do your part, the tool will hold up its end. I love dividers because they are remarkably versatile and one this size is amazing to have in the shop. My favorite use is at the forge to try for consistent lengths between different pieces. Trying to use a tape in that situation is asking for your fingers or tape to get burnt. The divider works great and doesn't care at all that the metal is hot. Also, I've yet to forge anything to an exact dimension, so being able to duplicate a particular length is far more important to me most of the time than making sure it is any particular length. This is very sturdy, durable, and represents a good value for anyone who needs to transfer measurements, compare sizes, or work with medium radii.

Customer Review
Good quality materials, but less than ideal manufacturing or QA.Good quality materials, but less ...

[Size: 16inch-1PCS, Size: 16inch-1PCS]
This review is for the 16-inch Radius Divider Scribing Compass and Ruler. This appears to be manufactured with a good quality stainless steel body and carbon steel tips. The center clamp is quite versatile and works well to prevent unwanted movement of the two arms, and can reach a maximum width of just under 24 inches between the two scribe points. The kit also includes four extra scribe points. The kit also comes with a 16-inch stainless double-sided ruler with imperial on one side and metric on the other. The imperial side features 1/32" tick marks in the first 2.5 inches, 1/64" tick marks for 2.5-3 inch range, and 1/16 inch tick marks for the rest of the ruler. The markings on the ruler are very sharp and precise and professional looking. The arms of the scribe use a groove aligned with a clamping bolt to hold scribe tips in place. On the scribe I received, one arm has a misaligned clamping bolt hole (relative to the groove), so care is needed for me to ensure the scribe is solidly clamped into place to prevent sudden movement of the scribe point on that side. I am not a fan of the single large silicone cap used to cover both scribe points, since this design will be very prone to the cap getting lost. It would have been better to have individual rubber caps for the two scribe tips.Overall, $28 would be a good value for what you receive, although the manufacturing error on the scribe arm brings the value down a bit.

Easy to adjust and locks securely at that distance. Tips are replaceable with spare tips included...

[Size: 16inch-1PCS, Size: 16inch-1PCS]
This radius divider tool does a great job at marking arcs and circles including large diameter arcs. The item comes with the radius divider tool, a 16" long ruler, and 4 extra tips for the radius divider tool. The radius divider tool is made out of thick metal. There's a metal sliding piece that slides up and down the tool allowing the ends to be opened or closed. The shape of the tool keeps both arms under the sliding piece. Thus you can set the distance you want to mark and then tighten the thumb screw on the sliding metal lock piece to lock the tool to that size. That process works really well. The two arms are connected on one end and the other end has the pointed tips secured. The tips secure through a nut that tightens a small threaded bit of metal pulling the tip into a groove on the radius divider tool. You can loosen the nut to remove the tip for example to replace the tip. The tool measures approximately 17.25" in length and I was able to open the ends to about 24.5" apart. I weighed the tool at 8.92 ounces. The included ruler has both inches and centimeters for measurement. Inches are on one side, centimeters on the opposite side. Both have sections with very precise measurements. The inch side has a section with 50th of inches marked and 64th of inches marked. On the centimeters side there's a section with 0.5 mm marked.Using the tool it's easy to lock in the distance you want and using the ruler you can measure the distance between the points. The pointed ends do a good job at marking wood. I found drawing circles and arcs felt natural and there was no slippage. It's especially good with large circles. It's a great marking tool.

Big set of dividers is a semi-decadent luxury for retired guys and gals

[Size: 16inch-1PCS]
You've earned your retirement, and you have your hobbies, right? Now you want to fill in the blank places (if there are any) on your tool pegboard. You need BIG DIVIDERS, right? I mean how many times have you cobbled together a large divider substitute, generally substandard, because back then you couldn't justify buying a large set of dividers for occasional use, right? :-)Now you can get these! They are big. They also include a real nice stainless steel flat ruler, plus extra points. They dividers are a LITTLE cheesy, but they do work as advertised, and will definitely work better than a couple scraps of boards like you used to use. LoLOverall, I'm glad I got them. Now, I'm looking forward to a real project where I need them. But in testing, they did work as advertised, and the included ruler makes it easy to get a fairly precise dimension.Four stars because of the slightly cheesy imported feel for the dividers. Still, overall a good tool for DIY/Weekend Warrior/Retired guy/gal who just uses his/her large scale dividers for occasional uses.

Well made tool that is easy to useWell made tool that is easy to use

[Size: 16inch-1PCS, Size: 16inch-1PCS]
This divider is heavy and feels sturdy. It comes with a ruler that with inch measurements on one side and cm on the other. It also comes with four extra points. In using it I found it was relatively easy to use for scribing circles in wood for use with a scroll saw. The adjustment of the arms is fairly stiff and it can take a couple of tries to get the setting exactly right, but I had no problem with the divider staying at the desired spacing and the screw clamp was effective at holding it in position. It was easy to use to scribe circles once it was set and clamped. One minor issue for me was that I didn't find the included ruler all that practical because it is difficult to align the points on the divider exactly with the end of the ruler. This wasn't too much of a problem for me because I have other rulers around the shop that work better for this usage, and the included ruler is actually a very nice ruler for other uses.

Robust and functionalRobust and functional

[Size: 16inch-1PCS, Size: 16inch-1PCS]
I confess this compass/scribing tool is larger than I'd expected, heck, it's huge! I've included a photo that shows my hand so you can get an idea of its size. It's very tough, all metal construction, and it includes spare points, a nice touch. It comes with a beautiful metal ruler in a plastic slipcaase. If there are any criticisms, it's that this isn't a beautifully-finished precision tool. It's strong and functional, but it won't win any beauty contests. It can also be a bit tricky to maneuver the clamp that sets the position. That said, I found the tension on the arms just right -- they were easy to swing into position and once there, they stayed where I'd put them, even without tightening the clamp (though you'd want to do that when scribing something just in case). If I were to make wishlist, I'd make a pouch in the ruler slipcase that you could put the spare points in. As it is, I labeled the plastic points container in case they get separated (as they will). Or maybe a plastic case that holds everything, points, scriber, and ruler? All in all, a very useful tool that I wish I'd had when I was finishing off my kitchen a couple of months ago!
