I've always been hesitant to get my own PVC pipe heater because when I've seen it done professionally it looked like a very demanding and exacting task. This product from Hoadhen, however, delivers professional level quality with an ease of use that appeals to amateurs like me. It's really a simple process--just preheat the device to 500 F/ 260C, open the top, insert the conduit, close the lid, rotate until good and flexible and then remove and bend. That's really it. Getting the bend just right is something of an acquired skill but it shouldn't take you more than a few tries.Another concern I've had about this type of product is safety but Hoadhen has that covered as well. it has an internal temperature monitoring system which allows you to see the real time temperature at any point. If the heater exceeds 500 F/280 C for 7 to 10 minutes it'll shut off automatically. That was a relief to me as I'm notorious for preheating the oven and then walking off without cooking anything. The heater feels very solid and the build material is rugged heavy duty metal. The inner lid is reflective to better distribute internal heat. Even for a novice, this heater is easy to use and definitely up to whatever job you throw at it. Recommended.

Built well enough, cost to value is a little interesting. It's a pretty basic machine so I'm not sure why the cost is where it is. ($550 at time of ordering) For a professional, the time savings over trying to use a handheld would probably pay for itself in a couple of jobs. I still like to use a bending form to get a consistent shape with the bend. My form is metal so it helps cool the pipe faster as well. Unit heats up pretty quick and does a good job warming the pipe. You do need to spin the pipe and it does have bearing for the pipe to rest on, making spinning easy. I thought it was pretty funny that the temp dial they chose is for cooking so it has good readouts for when the tool is ready to grill, bake, or sear your pipe.... haha.

It's a good value in terms of features, though it's not without a few practical drawbacks.Heating is reasonably even thanks to the reflective interior. PVC comes out pliable and easy to bend without kinks in most cases. It helps to have an existing elbow to use as a positioning guide, or a bending jig to get perfectly repeatable bends.It's not too large, easy to move around a job site where needed.This unit lacks adjustable temperature settings, relying instead on a fixed preheat approach. It works, but offers less flexibility than adjustable temp models.Build quality is solid but functional, not as heavy-duty as professional grade options from established brands, but feels like it will last a long time anyway.The outside of the unit can get quite hot during use. Be careful around it and when handling.

The thick insulation and heavy duty heating element on this PVC pipe heater feel well made and substantial enough to handle bigger jobs back to back. Its practical application is excellent for cold weather installs because the element warms up 24 inch sections of conduit quickly and evenly for easy bending. I really appreciated how the built in temperature detector helped me avoid scorching the plastic, but the stiff power cord can be a bit clumsy to manage when you are trying to position the heater in tight spaces.
