These filters are a practical option for catching very fine sediment before it moves farther into a home's water system.The grooved design provides additional surface area, and the standard 10-by-2.5-inch size fits compatible housings without requiring a proprietary system. At one micron, these are much finer than the coarser sediment filters often used as the first stage of filtration.That fine filtration also means they can clog faster when dealing with water containing a lot of sediment. Depending on the water source, using a coarser pre-filter ahead of a one-micron cartridge may extend its useful life.Overall, these are well-made replacement cartridges for compatible systems when fine sediment filtration is needed.

I like this filter. I used it for about a month on a well that only had one filtration stage, and I noticed next-to-no change in the water pressure. It was about as easy to use and install as any other 2.5" filter; I'd argue it was actually a bit easier because the seal on the top and bottom where the housing indents compressed readily. If you're new to working with well filters, the grooves serve a very important purpose: the flow through a filter - especially one that is thin like this - increases with surface area, and these grooves are exactly the right size: fine enough to increase surface are while staying chunky enough so sediment doesn't clog them.This filter wouldn't hold up to six months for my well; I'd want to replace it in around two. You can see from the pictures that one month made the sediment penetrate about 3/4 of the way through the filter wall. This is no verdict on the filter quality, though. It just highlights that every well and filter setup is different, and that checking your filters *before* you think you need to replace them is very important. My well water has incredibly fine sediment and only one filtration stage. Compared to my standard filters, these would actually last at least twice as long!

This filter appears to be very nicely built. The material is consistent, with no apparent fiber inconsistencies. This is marketed for home use, not necessarily for lab/industrial use. Likely it will do a fine job of filtering out fine sediment from your water source. Still, I would feel better about trusting its performance if the vendor would specify the testing standards they use, and ideally the standards against which it is certified. Instead, they simply provide their claim of "filtration effect" of ">95%", with a micron rating of 1 micron. Since this is not industry standard terminology, interpretation of this statement is up to the user. I think it means that it will allow up to 5% of particles >1 micron to pass through, but there is no absolute rating provided, so who knows whether this could allow larger bacteria or parasites to pass.

These polypropylene graduated meltblown filters with added grooves are excellent at capturing sediment. The grooves increase the amount of surface area which intern increase the effective service life of this filter. Even though it is just 10“ x 2.5“, it can deliver up to 13,000 gallons of water filtration. Of course this depends on how much sediment is in the water.These filters are the standard size and fit my 10“ x 2.5“ water filter housing perfectly. As expected, installation is a breeze due to the standard fit design. The filters actually have graduated filtration, which increases their service life as well. The outer layer captures sediment particles as small as 7 µm. The middle layer will capture any particles that get through as small as 5 µm. The inner layer is what will capture any of the particles smaller than 5 µm and as large or equal to one micron. This is a standard design with most meltblown polypropylene filters now, because it does a great job of extending the Service life of the filter and allowing it to capture more sediment before clogging up as it would if we were entirely just media designed for one micron of filtration.These are excellent filters, that seem to be doing exactly what they are advertise to do. I use them as a final polishing filter in my three stage system under the sink.

I ordered these as an experiment to test for two uses 1)when topping off my pool water from our well water source. 2) using a submersible pump attached to a two stage filter then back into the pool to reduce mustard algae contamination. Our well water has caused huge struggles and rebalancing at the season startup and when having to add water to our pool mid season as the metals and contaminants interact with the chlorine and then the water turns brown and green. I use a three stage whole house water filter rig in my pool pump house well water source and have only used 20, 10 and 5 micron filters thus far which is a definite improvement but I am hopeful a 1 micron will help even more. I tried a submersible pump attached to a two stage whole house filter and then routed it back into the pool to catch micro mustard algae. I will try the same these 1 micron filters. They fiit both of my systems well, no issues. If,this works it will save TONS OF MONEY on chemicals AND frustration TIME in battling metals and mustard algae.

This 2.5" diameter by 10" tall filter cartridge is made to fit the ubiquitous quarter-sized Pentek 'Big Blue' filter housing. The cartridge is made of a polypropylene(PP) thermoplastic that is also known as melt blown, a reference to how it is manufactured. The pack that I ordered was a 5-count, but the very best value for the money that the seller is offering is for a pack of six that runs a little less than six bucks a piece.These are made in a supposedly graduated fashion in which the outer-most part of the cartridge catches most of the sediment in a larger pore assembly that becomes finer as you move closer to the core. That final core portion is rated for 1-micron, which is an excellent level of clarity since that will also remove the majority of biological pathogens like cysts and bacteria, but it isn't quite small enough to stop viruses. As a pre-filter upstream of an under-sink RODI system, this would make a wonderful 2nd or 3rd stage up-stream and following something like similar a 5-micron cartridge.These cartridges are a bit different than most since they appear to have had square bottomed rings cut into the outer layer that increases the amount of exposed filter area in order to handle a slightly higher volume of water. This of course reduces the overall amount of total cartridge material somewhat. so the effect is not without a reciprocal cost, but the idea is interesting. I have not had the cartridges long enough to be able to fully evaluate any real practical differences, but I will be tracking its performance in terms of total gallons of pre-treated water processed.Functionally these are just like any other same size cartridge, and they are incredibly easy to deploy. Just use the cartridge housing spanner to unscrew the housing once the water is turned off, dump out the saturated cartridge and water, drop in a new one and then screw it all back together again.As mentioned, filtering to 1-micron will help remove a tremendous amount of contaminants, but not all of them, and if you have issues with things like iron, sulfur odors or tannins you're going to need some additional help, but this in front of a reverse osmosis system will extend the life of your RO membrane significantly.
