This fence post anchor is made from sufficiently thick metal. The instructions for installation gives a couple options, with and without cement. The 16" depth should provide good stability, but depending on the frost line in your region, using cement with a deep enough hole would help it to work even better.This design is also nice as it keeps the wood post above the ground which should prevent rotting or at least delay it. This should be a great option to simplify one or two post installations or just make a larger job more consistent.

This is a fantastic solution if you don’t want to dig a traditional post hole and mix concrete, especially for something you may eventually want to move.We used ours for a birdhouse post in our side garden. We wanted the post to be secure, but really didn’t want to turn a simple birdhouse into an entire digging-and-concrete project. This made the installation so much easier.The anchor itself is very heavy duty, and the spike portion is nice and long. Once you get it driven fully into the ground, it feels extremely solid and secure. A few months ago I saw a guy on YouTube pound one of these "GURONG 1 Pcs 4x4 Fence Post Anchor Ground Spike 16"(Actual: 3.6"x3.6") Heavy-Duty Post Anchors, Black Powder-Coated, 4x4 Post Spike for Fences, Mailboxes" into the ground with a sledgehammer so that he could mount a hose reel. It was impressive stuff! I'm not as buff as he was, so I wasn't even remotely remarkable, and yet the spike drove into my rocky Texas caliche ground without me breaking a sweat. In fact, it was harder to lift the sledgehammer than it was to drive the spike down! I used an off-cut of the 4x4 post as a pounding base to allow me to avoid damaging the spike and it worked well. Absolutely no give, bending, or cracking. The 4x4 post fit easily too - I was concerned about the disparity in size, but it is a perfect fit. I am also using this to hold a hose reel, and the delight in not having to dig a huge hole, balance a pole, mix and spill concrete.. is huge. It's an easy no mess - no fuss solution for instant post mounting. It's very sturdy once it has been pounded into the ground and the included screws are a welcome bonus.

This is a solid, heavy-duty post anchor. It fits a standard 4x4 well and feels sturdy once installed. I like that it allows you to secure a post without having to dig a large hole and pour concrete. The black coating also gives it a nice finished look and should help protect the metal outdoors. The included screws are convenient. There should be a height limit as it won’t hold my tall light fixture but will for smaller shorter posts.

This anchor worked very well for my project. I used a standard 4x4 post, and while there was a small amount of extra space once set into the bracket, it still held securely. The fit was close enough to keep the post stable without wobbling.For installation, I wanted to test placement before committing to concrete, so I pressed the spike directly into the ground. It was an easy process but somewhat tedious. I pushed it in as far as possible, then lifted the loose board and slammed it down into the anchor to drive it deeper. After about five minutes, the unit was flush with the ground. I leveled the post using the side screw holes and wood screws. I couldn’t secure the front screws due to a barrier, but the post remained solid. On my next install, I’ll use a small sledgehammer and a sacrificial piece of wood on top of the 4x4 for a cleaner finish.Overall, this is a well‑made, heavy‑duty anchor that performs as expected. The powder‑coated finish looks good and should resist rust. I would most likely buy again for similar outdoor projects.

I have two of these heavy-duty anchors and recently used one for a project. It’s steel and it’s heavy and rugged. The black powder-coating is thick and well-applied, which should prevent rust below the grass line. Driving it straight into my caliche soil is way easier than digging holes or mixing concrete. The opening is designed so that a standard 4x4 post slips right in. (4x4s are not actually 4”x4”.)This anchor is great for standalone projects like a mailbox or a single pole. It is a great time-saver for the right project.This is not for fence posts. This is for standalone posts. If you try to use this for fences, you will run into problems:- When you drive it into the ground, it can get off center. It can twist slightly. It can hit a rock or root and move a little from where you want it. Because of this, it’s tough to line up a row of pre-assembled fence panels.- Account for your post height. Since this sits above ground level, putting a standard 8-foot post into the bracket means your post will stand a full 8 feet above the ground. Not good if you’re installing a 6’ fence.

I ordered this anchor spike for mounting a temporary 4" x 4" post in my yard for a party. (Of course, a 4" x 4" is not a true four inches square.) This is a pretty well made anchor when comparing it to other anchors I've purchased at other large lumber yards. Price wise, this is a good bargain for the quality of the anchor. The metal is thick enough to last many years with the spike section being 12" inches long to hold well in the ground. The manufacturer provides a sheet of paper with installation instructions on one side and their contact information on the other. (I thought their contact info was a nice gesture.) The post inset section is four inches deep and has multiple holes around it for putting screws in to the 4" x 4". The included mounting screws are not much more than 2” drywall screws, so I would recommend getting some galvanized screws to hold the 4" x 4" solidly in place. A quick trick for putting the anchor in the ground, if not using concrete and after calling 811 to mark the area, is to use a 2' +/- long scrap piece of 4" x 4" and a sledgehammer. Put the scrap in the anchor inset section and bang away, then install your final post.
