Specialty wire. That's what this is and why it tends to be expensive. Go to your local hardware store and look at the different kinds of wire and one thing should be noticeable. It's expensive. And buying the wrong kind or the wrong length can cost you even more.Too many things to cover and so little time and space. I hate long reviews so lets just do the basics.Why is it expensive, copper. Lots of pure copper and copper is expensive. That's why it gets stolen so often.So why is buying the wrong length a real problem. You think you need 20' and they sell 25', so you get that. And if your right, great. If you're wrong you can't return it once you've tried to run through the walls. So now you have left over 25' and had to buy 50'. It was cheaper by the foot to buy 50, but now you have this left over and 25' of the more expensive length.Next up is the right kind. That's where the gauge comes in. And some wire is special colors for a reason. Even the number of wires inside is important. So 14/2 is really 3 wires cause it includes a ground. But this cable is 16/2 but is only two wires. Why, cause it's special. And the wires are not black and white either. More like purple and pink. Again, why? When you run this and your normal 14/2 the sizes are not that different. but what they do and what they carry couldn't be any more different.Lights that are dimmable with a special controller use a 0-10Volt DC signal to control the lights that actually need 115Volt AC to operate. Since the wires are similar sizes, color helps you know how to wire it up.So measure twice and round up a lot so you have enough the first time and get the cheapest cost per foot when you do. This wire is safety rated and the wire gauge is more than enough for the signal running through it.

At the current price of 88 cents per foot for 25 feet or even cheaper in larger quantities this is a good price for the quality. It is 100 per cent copper and I know that because I tested it with a magnet and I cut into it also. I recently bought a large spool of wire from one of the big home improvement stores and thought it was solid copper but a magnet proved that it wasn't, it was only copper plated. Other wires I have bought have the labelling on the wire with obvious spelling mistakes leaving you not knowing what requirements it would meet if any.
