Just because the enclosure screws were so difficult to use, I almost gave it three stars. The screw heads are so tiny that they are difficult to thread in and out. That and one of the enclosure screws goes right through the middle of the prongs. It’s too bad they placed it there as this would be a nice place to leave the ground wire lay through the center of the plug. Other than that, the quality of the housing and the prongs themselves seem fair. I did not like the ground plug wire attachment. The power and neutral wires have a nice set screw designed to hold the wire in, while the ground has a screw through the center of a flat plate to pinch it. This causes you to have to split the heavy wire in order to get it to stay in place. That and you have to run the ground wire around the outside of the other plugs which there is just enough room to do. It seems like the plastic will be durable enough and the finger grips on the back should make it easy for plugging in and out of the outlets. This is a nice configurable plug with the exception of the small heads on the retaining screws of the plug body. If I were to order another, I might try another brand just because of the screws.

I picked this up because I needed to fix the power cord on my older shop welder and didn't want to spend a fortune at the local hardware store. Honestly, I'm not some master electrician, so I was a little worried I'd mess it up, but it actually went together pretty easy. The plastic body feels super tough, like it could handle being dropped on the concrete floor a bunch of times without cracking. My absolute favorite part is the little loop handles on the back. Usually, I have to wiggle these giant plugs back and forth forever trying to get them out of the wall, which probably ruins the outlet, but with this one I can just put my fingers in and pull it straight out.I only knocked off a star because of the screws inside. They are regular old Phillips head screws and the metal feels kind of soft, so I almost stripped one of them while tightening down the heavy wire. It would have been way better if they just used those star-shaped screws instead. Also, you have to be careful when putting it together because there are some extra metal pieces in the box to switch it between different power settings, and the directions were a little confusing at first glance. Still, it got my machine up and running again without blowing up, so I'd say it does the job.

I like when products are exactly what they say they are, and this one is. A high-quality, well-made and sturdy 6-50P/6-30P plug that's ETL listed.When it comes to high power electrical like this, ETL/UL listing is an absolute requirement for me. (And should be for everyone, in my opinion.) It's a safety check, and when you've got 30-50 amps running through something at 240V/250V... which is potentially 12,500 watts of power at any given moment... yeah safety matters, a lot. So it's gotta be ETL/UL listed if I'm gonna use it.Not just that it bears the mark, but that the mark can be verified. ETL listings are easy to search. Just look up "Intertek ETL Listed Directory" and you'll get to the search form. Enter the full model number shown on the plug (RM-650HP, which you can see in a couple of my photos) and you'll get the listings for Everdevelop Electric Appliance Co, which is the underlying manufacturer that makes these (and many, many other electrical plugs and accessories).Their listing certifies this RM-650HP to conform to UL-498, which is the appropriate safety standard/criteria for this kind of plug. In short, it's actually ETL listed, not just a bogus claim. Some companies make it hard or impossible to verify their listing status by obscuring the model number or other shenanigans. This one was stupid easy, which I appreciate.Now with the safety box checked, let's go to build quality. Really good on that front, too. The plastic shell is thick and durable with a firm grip handle. I especially appreciate that because many 6-50R receptacles have a very snug fit (by design, I know), so the handle makes disengaging them easy. It's also a lot safer if you happen to have an emergency and need to pull the plug fast.The blade contacts are high quality and flawless. The good packaging on this product helps ensure they don't get bent in shipping. The internal contacts are solid, with well machined threads. Note that this is for copper wire only, NOT aluminum. Any of the following wire types work: S, SO, SOO, ST, STO, STOO, or any of those with the "W" variant (STOOW, etc.).For 6-50P configuration, use 6AWG wire. That matches the 50amp rating of the plug. For 6-30P, use 10AWG wire. If you go any lower than those wire gauges, you'll end up creating a plug that fits into a receptacle that has a higher current rating than the wire it feeds. Meaning it would be easy to overload the wire and cause it to heat up and possibly melt. Don't undersize wires. Use the appropriate gauge for the plug configuration you're using.It's very simple to change the blades if you want to switch from the 6-50P to 6-30P configuration, or vice versa. Just make sure you actually use the correct blade on the left side of the plug (as you're looking at the blades). It comes in 6-50P configuration, which has vertical blades but one is smaller than the other. The 6-30P configuration has horizontal blades, but they're the same size. They give you the extra blade to put in if you do 6-30P, so both blades are the same size.The instructions are actually helpful for explaining and showing you just how to wire it if you're unfamiliar.The one thing I don't like about it is just the screws. They're fine for what they are, but they're Phillips drive. I wish these kinds of things would use a modern screw drive like Torx. It's so much easier to use and doesn't risk stripping the screw nearly as much. These aren't particularly high-grade metals being used in these screws, so the Phillips naturally wears over time. I'm not taking off any rating for this but it's still a little annoying.This is priced at $16 right now with a coupon to make it about $14. That seems to be equivalent to competing brands selling the same thing (which is probably literally the same plug manufactured by Everdevelop). For a high-quality plug like this, that seems a fair price. I'd rather pay a couple bucks more and have something that's verifiably safety-tested.We're using this for a high-power induction motor right now. It's been working out fine so far. One thing to keep in mind though is that this is a 6-50/30P. That means it is 2 hot wires and one ground for 240V service. No neutral wire. So if your application needs 2 hots plus a neutral and independent ground, you should be looking at the 14-50/30P plugs instead. EV chargers, for example, typically use 14-50P plugs. I don't recommend using adapters to convert between them unless you know what you're doing. It's easy to inadvertently cut out a neutral/ground situation if you're not paying attention.Overall, despite being hard to please when it comes to electrical products, I'm very happy with this plug and highly recommend it.
