This submersible water pump works pretty much as expected. The only thing is it stops about a few inches of water, which is probably to protect the pump, but you might have to think about what to do with the few inches of water left. The other thing to consider is it doesn't kick on until the flow raises to around 18 inches or so, which means if it's between there you might have to move it to kind of get it started. It does flow a pretty good amount of water through that port. It's not super fast, but it's a wider diameter, so it is a larger amount of volume. So I would say it works as expected. You just might have to move it around to get it to do what you want, and to manually shut it off you have to unplug it.
I needed to reduce the stabilizer level in my pool and this pump did well for that job. It does not come with any discharge hose, but it comes with a connection for a 3/4" garden hose and a multi hose connector for 1" & 1.5" hoses. Note that you will need a 1.5" discharge hose to achieve a discharge rate near the advertised 4500GPH. If you use a garden hose for discharge like I did, you will find it drastically restricts flow down to around 450 GPH (5 gallon bucket filled in 40 seconds) and this is normal. This rate worked fine for me as I wanted to use rainwater for the pool refill. I drained about one foot of water and turned off the pump. When it started to rain, I diverted the rain from the gutters thru 2.5" flat braid hose, brought it back up 10 inches, and then I started the pump again with the rain still coming into the pool at the same time. I stopped the pump when the rain stopped and only had to put in about 1/2"one of city water. The weatherman was off on the forecast- we only got 4" not 7" of rain, but that was enough to change out about 20% of my pool water. Next rainstorm I will do this again and then my stabilizer level should be in tolerance. Definitely a good deal if you need a sump pump.
These work extremely well, if you have this in a larger body of water where the switch can "float" to turn on. If it doesn't have the room to float sufficiently and move around a little bit as the water rises and falls, it won't work as well. (it doesn't require that much space, a 5 gallon standard bucket is usually sufficient for this kind of stuff)You also don't need to use the pump automatic switch, it does indeed have an on/off mode as well.This can also handle debris that's smaller. (as in debris in the water)
I got this 1 HP pump as a backup because I have a high water table and pretty much need a sump pump running in my basement year-round. For that purpose, this has worked really well.One thing I really like is that it draws water from the bottom. It can pull the water level down surprisingly low instead of leaving several inches behind. The float works properly and has an adjustable bracket so you can change the activation depth. You can also set it up to run continuously, which makes it useful for more than just sitting in a sump pit waiting for the water to rise.And this thing **moves water**.My setup requires it to pump vertically about 7 feet before sending the water out, and it handles that without a problem. For an inexpensive plastic pump, I was impressed with how quickly it moves water at that height.It can also handle some debris, which is another reason I wanted it. One corner of my yard occasionally floods, and I can use this out there without being quite as concerned about every leaf or piece of crud immediately plugging the pump. That makes it useful as a general-purpose transfer/dewatering pump in addition to being a backup sump pump.My biggest complaint is the discharge connection. The included outlet threads onto the pump, but the setup doesn't provide a particularly good way to incorporate a proper check valve. If you're installing this permanently as an actual sump pump, that's something you'll need to figure out because you don't want seven feet of water in the discharge line introducing itself to your basement again every time the pump shuts off.Construction is also almost entirely plastic. It feels decent for the price, but I bought this knowing what it is. **I would not personally trust it as my primary sump pump cycling multiple times every day.** For occasional use, emergency backup duty, flooded areas, draining water, and similar jobs, I think it's a great inexpensive option. For protecting my basement 24/7 with a high water table, I'm sticking with a heavier-duty primary pump.Overall, it has been perfect for what I bought it for. The float works well, it pulls water down low, handles some debris, and has no problem pushing water approximately seven feet vertically in my setup.**Four stars.** Great inexpensive backup and utility pump with plenty of water-moving muscle. I just wouldn't hand an all-plastic pump the keys to my basement and tell it, “You're in charge now.”

A utility pump is one of those things you don't appreciate until you suddenly have a lot of water that needs to go somewhere else.The 1 HP motor and advertised 4500 GPH capacity are substantial for a portable pump of this size. This makes much more sense for draining a pool, flooded area, large container or other significant water-removal job than trying to accomplish the same thing with a tiny transfer pump.I also appreciate the thermoplastic construction because it keeps the unit relatively manageable to move around, and the included adapters give you some flexibility with the discharge setup.Actual flow is naturally going to decrease as lift height and hose restriction increase, so I wouldn't expect 4500 GPH under every installation. That's normal for pumps.Still, having something this capable available for emergency water removal provides a lot of peace of mind.5/5 – powerful, portable and capable of moving a serious amount of water.
The biggest problem with this pump is that the floating switch does not come on until you have quite a bit of water in the sump. I actually measure it at about 18 inches which is not acceptable at all. The instructions mention an adjustment but are very unclear as to how to do it. Maybe it's because I don't understand the word "stplesslyadjusted" listed in the instructions. I have used other pumps that had a bypass on the float switch so you could use it to pump down to an inch of water - great for draining a basement for example. This one has no such feature. The pump itself does work and moves a bit of water. It comes with 2 different fittings - one for barbed hose and the other threaded for a standard garden hose - though that smaller diameter will certainly affect the flow. This pump arrived with a broken handle which could have been prevented with a foam insert on top of the pump.
This is the perfect fit for emptying a drain basin I have in my yard next to the house. Because of the contour on my back yard I have an area that retains remain water and drainage off my roof. Without have to do a lot of landscape work, which would be the best solution, I can keep the area clear of deep water by dripping this in the bottom of the basin. It stays plugged in and has an automatic water level sensor so that when the basin begins to fill up, it turns on and pumps the water out down to about 2”. Since it can handle dirty / gray water with debris up to 1/2” in diameter, it doesn't clog up easily and keeps my back yard dry. Until I can get more landscaping done, this is a very good solution. The pump seems very durable and has been able to keep up with rains of up to 4” in an afternoon. 4000 gallons per hour is the stated pump rate on it. The quality is very good.

We picked up this 1 HP Submersible Utility Pump for those situations where you need to move a lot of water quickly, and it has been a very useful tool to have around the house.The pump has plenty of power and moves water much faster than smaller utility pumps we've used in the past.
