Wow. The box that showed up could barely contain these hinges — so heavy duty they practically couldn't wait to break out of the box. Talk about heavy; these have that feature down pat.These are also some of the cleanest welded items I've ever received from Amazon. The finish is really nice, worthy of a fancy gate panel. The price isn't for everyone, but I wouldn't insult these hinges by installing them on any so-so fence gate. They deserve real company — the best materials. They'd work on a Douglas Fir fence, sure, but it'd be overkill.I have a double gate, 9 feet wide, with each gate just under 4.5 feet, and I'm already considering redesigning the whole gate so I don't feel like I failed these hinges.As for the ball bearings, they are smoooooth. We'll see what happens when some serious weight gets added. The description says they handle half a ton — I think that's per hinge, but I'm not certain. If I had to bet, though, I'd say yes, for sure; they're built that tough.On adjustability: I'm not seeing much beyond just installing them correctly to begin with. Honestly, I don't want them to move — if there were an adjustment feature, I feel it might actually hinder the hinge's overall function. That's just my personal opinion, but for a hinge this solid, "set it right the first time" suits me fine.One thing to keep in mind: the travel is really good at 110 degrees, but not what I personally prefer (I like a full 180). It'll meet my needs, but if you want your gate to swing all the way back and touch the fence — to lock open, for example — that 110° limit is worth noting before you buy.Overall, "heavy duty" feels like it sells this set short, but I lack the words to better describe it.

Wow. I got these hinges to upgrade the aging hardware on my side alley gate which, just like me, is beginning to show its years. What I did not realize was that these hinges seem designed to hinge an airplane to its hangar.They are seriously substantial. The 6 mm solid steel construction, long mounting straps and black powder-coated finish give them the appearance and weight of industrial hardware rather than ordinary residential gate hinges. The built-in ball bearings move very smoothly, and the multiple mounting points distribute the load well and help prevent sagging over time.Other reviewers confirm that the construction is excellent and the movement under load is impressively smooth. The less positive side is also fairly obvious: these hinges are large, heavy and probably excessive for a normal suburban gate. Installation requires careful positioning, strong mounting points and possibly better fasteners, since one reviewer found the supplied screws less impressive than the hinges themselves.For my little side gate, this is unquestionably overkill—but overkill has its advantages. I doubt the hinges will ever be the weak point again. The gate may eventually disappear from old age, but these hinges will probably still be standing there, waiting for the airplane.Five stars because they are extremely well made and work beautifully. They are big, heavily built, extremely well finished and, thanks to the ball bearings, remarkably smooth in operation. They claim a 1000 pound capability and have given me no reason to dispute that. These hinges are built like a tank. The metal is thick, they feel exceptionally well made, and I have no doubt they'll hold up to years of use on a heavy gate. If your project matches the way they're designed to install, I think they'll perform very well.The reason I'm giving them four stars instead of five is that the installation is very different from traditional gate hinges. These are designed to mount between overlapping fence boards rather than simply attaching to the face of the gate and post. Unfortunately, my privacy fence wasn't constructed in a way that would allow that installation method, so they just weren't compatible with my setup.I'm returning them because they won't work for my fence, not because of the quality. If you have the right gate configuration, these are incredibly sturdy hinges. Just be sure to look closely at the mounting style before ordering to make sure they'll fit your project
