This outlet looks to be made very well, all of the materials feel and look to be very solid. The electrical box and cover is a nice thick metal material and the outlet itself has a good solid feel to it. Even though this outlet is designed for an EV charger I am actually using this outlet for a electric range on the house which has the same cord fitting. The difference between an EV charger outlet and a electric range outlet is the EV Charger is designed for prolonged charging times so they are usually more heavy duty than the equivalent range outlets, the circumference of the outer part of the outlet is also larger to differentiate the two styles. This outlet should be compatible to most chargers and 4 prong range/oven cords. The wire connectors are strong and easy to tighten, just make sure that you tighten it down very tight, I believe the instructions said 75 ft Lbs.

Overall at about $29.99 this is a good value for a NEMA 14 to 50 outlet kit.This is a very specific electrical part, but it is useful if you are setting up a 240V outlet for a Level 2 EV charger or RV power. I like that it comes as a surface mount kit instead of just the outlet by itself. You get the NEMA 14 to 50R outlet, surface mount box, cover plate, connector, and screws, so it feels more complete for the price.The outlet feels solid and the black finish looks clean once mounted. I also like that it is ETL listed and made for 50 amp use, because for EV charging I would not want to use something that feels cheap or questionable. The listing says it supports copper wire and has the 3 pole 4 wire setup, so that is something to check before installing.This is definitely not something I would install without knowing what I am doing, and I would use an electrician if you are not comfortable with 240V wiring. But for the price, I think it is a solid buy if you need a surface mount NEMA 14 to 50 outlet kit for an EV charger, garage, workshop, or RV setup.

The EV-charging connection serving my apartment parking and storage area needed a deliberate enclosure, so this receptacle and surface box became its foundation. Surface mounting made sense because opening a finished wall was not practical, and the box provided the receptacle with a defined enclosure rather than leaving high-current components assembled around whatever box happened to fit. As an EV owner, I paid attention to the entire path, not just whether the 14-50 face accepted the plug. The breaker, conductors, terminations, enclosure, receptacle, and EVSE all had to agree.Surface mounting produced a clean result and the best appearance, as well as versatility, because I planned the cable route and box position first. The box should be firmly attached, aligned so that the EVSE cord does not pull sideways on the receptacle, and positioned so that the plug can be inserted without tight bends. I left enough clearance around the connection to inspect the connection and unplug it by the body rather than using the cord as a handle. If the EVSE will remain connected most of the time, supporting its cable separately reduces strain on the outlet.For daily charging, I checked the receptacle for firm blade tension, a face that did not move in the box, and terminals that accepted the chosen conductor without forcing or improperly trimming strands. The receptacle should not become the only physical support for a heavy EVSE brick or hanging cable. A separate wall mount or holster keeps that weight from working the plug loose every time the cord is handled. I can't attest to the weather resistance, as it's in a covered area, but its functionality is on par with that of a very durable EV plug.The installation also needs to account for how often the EVSE will be unplugged. Repeated insertion cycles wear an outlet differently from a connection that remains seated, while leaving it connected makes inspection access and cable organization more important. Breaker type and any required ground-fault protection must be coordinated with the EVSE and local code. If nuisance tripping or warmth appears, the answer is diagnosis by a qualified electrician, not bypassing protection or lowering concern because charging eventually resumes.A NEMA 14-50 has two hot conductors, a neutral, and an equipment ground. Those conductors are not interchangeable, and neutral and ground should not be improvised together at the receptacle. Correct conductor sizing, terminal torque, circuit protection, grounding, enclosure entries, local code requirements, and any required ground-fault protection all matter. The EVSE setting must also be appropriate for the circuit. A 50-amp receptacle does not mean every connected device should draw 50 amps continuously.In my setup, the surface box kept the receptacle secure, accessible for inspection, and aligned with the heavy EVSE cable. That is the value of this format in a garage, workshop, or similar location where surface wiring is appropriate. Installation should still be performed or verified by a qualified electrician, particularly for daily EV charging. This is a very durable, well-built plug, hands down

Good kit!

Good all in one EV outlet kit. As a licensed electrician I install these regularly and having the receptacle, box, cover, clamp and screws all bundled makes for a quick clean job. Easy to assemble and everything you need is right in the package.Big plus that its an actual EV rated outlet. That matters, EV charging pulls continuous heavy load for hours, so you want a receptacle built for it, ETL listed and industrial grade like this one, not a cheap version that overheats over time.A couple things worth pointing out. This kit is set up for surface mount installation, so keep that in mind depending on what your project calls for. It also comes with a Romex/NM connector. Just be aware that in a garage, Romex is not allowed to be run exposed, it has to be protected in conduit. So for a lot of garage EV installs you'll want to swap in the right connector and run your wiring in conduit to stay compliant. Every situation is different, so check your local code before you start.Solid kit, good quality, easy install. Would recommend, and get a licensed electrician to handle the connection since 50 amps is serious. Would buy again.

My garage has an NEMA 14-50 outlet that was installed 6 years ago. I have recently noticed a darker color on one of the terminals. Consequently, I believe it is time to replace the old outlet with a better-quality one. I got this surface-mount NEMA 14-50 kit because it is ETL-listed and design for EV charging. The package included a complete kit for the metal enclosure and the NEMA 14-50 plug with a suitable screw to secure the wires.This NEMA 14-50 EV outlet is well-constructed. The external surface-mount box is made of heavy-duty metal, and the wire clamps are well-designed with a strong connection that can fully secure the wires. The internal prongs are strong and thick. The specifications require 75 in-lbs of torque. I used my Pro Torque Tool to ensure that the wires are properly tightened to meet the specifications. It is crucial to achieve the specified torque to avoid any potential issues, such as overheating the outlet or potentially causing it to malfunction. Although the advertisement claims that this is a 50-Amp outlet, the NEMA 14-50 specification is designed to draw 40 Amps continuously for hours on a 50-Amp circuit breaker.Overall, I am impressed by the design and quality of this NEMA 14-50 outlet. I highly recommend this product.

Heavy duty build with a verified ETL listing, but check the torque specs before you wire itHeavy ...

I was pleasantly surprised by how heavy duty this outlet is. It arrived mostly assembled, with the two face screws loose in the box rather than installed, which is an easy fix on your end.Assembly: The guillotine-style terminal clamps are a nice touch. Rather than just pinching the copper wire the way a cheap dryer outlet does, they grip it with a broad, even contact patch, which is exactly what you want for a connection that's going to see continuous high current. The torque specs are printed on the box itself, not on the outlet, and they matter here since this is 75 in-lbs, which is quite high. One thing worth mentioning: using a Klein screwdriver, the bit barely fits into the terminal screw slot (see attached picture). That's not really a problem in practice though, since there's no way you're getting anywhere close to 75 in-lbs with a hand screwdriver anyway. If you want to actually hit spec, you'll need a proper torque driver with a bit that fits cleanly.Quality: Looking it over, the internal prongs are noticeably beefy, and I'd be satisfied using this unit for a plug-in-and-leave-it setup. I did not run a thermal camera or laser temp check on it under extended load, but that's the kind of verification I'd want before trusting it long term, especially with repeated plugging and unplugging rather than a permanent connection.I also took the time to verify the ETL listing rather than just take it at face value. Novinsen appears to be a rebrand of EVERDEVELOP ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CO., LTD. out of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. The unit has the part number ED-1450EV stamped on the front, and searching that number turns up the underlying listing. I emailed the manufacturer directly with a photo and got confirmation back. For anyone unfamiliar, ETL and UL are both Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories under OSHA's program, and an ETL listing carries the same weight as a UL listing since Intertek (ETL's parent) tests products against the same published safety standards, most often UL's own. The main practical difference is that ETL certification tends to be faster and less expensive to obtain, not less rigorous. So seeing ETL rather than UL here isn't a red flag by itself.Value for money: At around $30, this is cheap enough to raise an eyebrow, but between the ETL verification and the visual build quality, it seems like solid value for a fixed plug-in application.One important caveat that has nothing to do with the outlet's quality: NEC continuous load rules cap this at 80% of its rating, so 40A continuous, not the full 50A nameplate rating. If you want to actually pull 50A or more, you need to hardwire the charger directly to the breaker rather than going through this outlet. That typically also means running 6 AWG copper (or 4 AWG aluminum) to get there.Bottom line: Solid, heavy-duty construction, a legitimately verified safety listing, and terminal clamps that grip the wire properly instead of pinching it, just use a proper torque driver on those screws and respect the NEC continuous load limit. That earned it 5 stars.Highly recommended.
