Folding Pocket Knife

Nice liner lock with snappy action. I'd call this folding knife full size as I think the blade is a little longer than the 3.54 inches listed. A lot of Chinese knife companies use the cutting edge length for the measurement instead of the blade length to where it meets the handle. I ordered the black version with the black PVD coated blade and it looks very sleek. The blade style is in the sheepsfoot family but could also be called a reverse tanto by modern standards and it's a good utility shape for fine work like cutting tape on boxes. The cutting edge does have a bit of belly which means you'll have to lift the handle a bit higher to get the tip on the work material, but it's not much. I like the simple handle with the straight lines and it's nice and lightweight overall. The pocket clip is fairly stiff and is nice and short, pretty much a standard Civivi deep carry clip. The flipper action on my example was very snappy after just a couple cycles of opening and closing. Snaps open with authority, thanks to it using ball bearing washers, and it makes a nice click sound. The liner lock makes good contact and doesn't overshoot the 35-40% mark so should last a long time IF the DC53 steel doesn't wear too fast at the contact point. Which brings me to my only real concern. DC53 steel. On paper it should be a good steel very similar to Sleipner steel, but my experience with the steel in several fixed blades I own is that a lot of Chinese companies don't heat treat it very well with all of my 4 examples being on the soft side. Ok for bushcraft knives that you want tougher, but edge retention suffers and sometimes it can be difficult to fully remove the burr when sharpening. It did come pretty sharp so I haven't had to sharpen it so can't really say whether Foresail does a better job at getting their DC53 harder. The price isn't bad considering companies like SRM put out some very fine knives in the $30 range with tried and true D2 steel, Foresail is in a crowded budget folding knife market. Bit this knife does have ball bearings which some of its competition left out. I'll make this knife my daily user and see how it holds an edge after a few sharpenings and report back. Still worth a try if you like the style though.

I have several items from this brand now, and this knife has not let me down. They have all been excellent.This knife is not too thick, it's got great gripping texture on the handle and a quality clip that holds it in the pocket well but does not snag or make it difficult to employ.The blade is sharp out of the box and the blade shape is perfect for cutting boxes, rubber material, and sharpening construction pencils.My favorite thing about this one is the thin profile in-pocket, and the glow in the dark back spacer is just an awesome feature to have. It's my new EDC. For the price, this is an excellent buy.

I received the Foresail 3.54in EDC Folding Pocket Knife as an Amazon Vine reviewer. Packaging was an Foresail-branded sleeve over a plain white box, containing a a foam knife holder, a microfiber cloth, a ziplock bag which contained a L-shaped Torx tool with different size ends and one each of the two Torx screws used in the knife, a card marked Qualified Certificate with a very small red stamp, and of course the knife (in another ziplock bag).The black PVD-coated blade stonewash steel reverse tanto blade is claimed as DC53 Steel, which if properly heat treated, should wind up around 60-64HRC (the blade is marked "DC5360±1HRC"). In general, DC53 should be an excellent knife steel at this price point, with toughness advantages over D2 due to the increased molybdenum. Chromium is lower than D2, so slightly further from stainless (although the PVD coating should help). Steel liners overlaid with black G10 which is nicely textured and sculpted. The backspacer is a fun glow-in-the-dark G10 with a lanyard hole.Foresail lists the knife at 8.07", I probably would have called it 8" from tip to the end of the backspacer. The knife has a reversable deep carry pocket clip. The cutting edge of the blade is 3.5", with a tiny sharpening choil. This is a linerlock, with nice lock-up and easy one-hand release and arrived nearly ready for drop-shut action.Deployment is via flipper tab, backside is a squared off just a touch with light gimping. It's an easy flip, even though the gimping isn't very aggressive. The lock itself aligned well on all openings. The knife arrived shaving sharp, with a flat grind.Overall, with the reverse tanto, black on black blade / G10, the tooling of the G10, etc, this has a bit of a tacticool appearance, but other options are available. For ~$35, this is a decent knife, and I like the DC53 at that price point.

Design & FeelAfter I ordered this, I thought it might be a switchblade. It is not, but it is handsomely designed! The style actually reminds me of a Japanese tanto knife. This might sound weird, but it feels light, yet it is still heavy duty.Fit & SizingI am 5'7" tall and 160 lbs, and I wear medium to large gloves. This knife fits my hand nicely. It is light enough that I will certainly carry it with me.FeaturesIt comes very sharp right out of the box.It features a pocket clip for easy carrying.It has a fluorescent tip.It includes a hole on the end to attach a paracord. I immediately ordered this when I saw it was available. I am familiar with this company and love their high quality products. This particular EDC knife caught my eye due to it having a longer 3.45in blade, a bit longer than what I am currently using. Some other features I love after opening this package and actually carrying the knife a couple of days is.* I like the slight contour of the blade. This has a slight curve to it which should be easier to sharpen. Some other knives have a blade that has somewhat of an s curve ,making it a bit more challenging when sharpening.* I really like the slimness of this knife, only .5 in thick. When putting it in the pocket it sits flatter against the body.* The clip is very strong and secure when I clip it to the pants pocket. And it stays in place. I also like that they included two extra screws and a wrench for the screws. They look like replacement for the screws on the clip. Also included is a good sized cleaning cloth.* This knife feels solid and heavy. Everything about it feels like high quality. Opening and closing is a breeze, smooth and easy. The bearings and lock mechanisms are solid with NO play and snap in place easily and securely.* One other feature I saw in the pictures but didn’t see in the written description was the glow-in-the-dark spacer/lanyard holder at the end of the knife. I tried it out by exposing it to the light and then seeing it in the dark (see photo). It’s kind of a cool feature if, for example, you are out at night, camping or hunting and want to make It more visible.* Last but not least is the that this blade is very sharp right out of the box. I’ve never owned a knife with a DC53 blade, but this one is definitely sharp so be careful. I’ve not had it long enough to see how it wears, but am looking forward to using this knife for everyday activities. I will update after using it a while and after sharpening it.If you want a very high quality EDC knife, you can’t go wrong with ForeSail. And for the price of under $40 this is a fantastic value. I definitely recommend this quality EDC knife.
