Or far more terrifying than any of those… a toddler?Then this latch is definitely required to prevent closet doors from opening when you're not around.The latch has a refined, polished, elegant look that fits in far better with modern house decor than an industrial garage. The lever operates smoothly, and has a slight spring to it that holds the lever in place - it's not just freeloading on basic friction or gravity.The catch side of the latch is designed to receive the lever from multiple angles, either a 180 degree or 90 degree. This is an unexpectedly nice feature so you can adapt the latch to whatever wonky door and frame setup you happen to have. On my closet, the door is recessed a little, so I added a few washers from my junk bucket to the back of the catch side to bring it flush with the latch side. If you do this, you'll need longer screws than what was provided with the latch.Overall, a great latch with multiple mounting options, so I'll finally be able to keep those kleptomaniac gnomes out of the closets for good!

This lock is solidly built and comes with everything you need for installation (except a screwdriver/drill). The lock comes in two pieces and can be used on a flat 180° surface or at a 90° angle. Included is also a guide to help you measure and install both pieces so they fit perfectly.My only complaint is that the screws included are fairly short. With a little bit of force, it won’t be difficult to break through and pull the lock out.. I wish they had included screws that were a little longer so they could embed into wood much more deeper for added security. This lock would be great, perhaps to keep a child from opening a door, and as a secondary layer of security, but I would not rely on it being the only preventative measure.

The latch itself seems solid and well-made, the finish is very nice, and it even comes with a paper template. My setup is a door that bypasses the opening on the outside of the room and sits offset 1/2 inch from the wall because of the baseboard. That half inch gap is too narrow for the hardware—the receiving piece is 3/4 inch thick (front to back) and the piece with the turning bar is 1 inch thick. In addition, because the door does not close against a wall at 90 degrees, the latch couldn’t engage properly. So, for a couple of reasons this didn’t work for me. However, all is not lost: I have a set of double doors at my winter home that close against each other in a 180-degree configuration. For those doors this latch should work perfectly.I added a couple photos to clarify the problem.Recommendation:This is a well-made latch with a nice finish and a handy template. Just check your gap first—the receiving piece is 3/4 inch thick and the turning-bar piece is 1 inch thick. It should work great on double doors that meet in the middle (180 degrees), but it won’t fit setups with only a 1/2 inch clearance or doors that bypass the opening without a proper 90 degree stop.

I really like this barn door safety latch! The white finish looks clean and blends nicely with my cupboard doors without standing out too much.
