Very Well Made - Some Differing Color on Rod

[Size: 10-40 gallon]
My hot water heater was installed about 7 years ago and I needed to replace my anode rod. My heater is in a closet with very limited space above it. I didn't want to get a segmented replacement rod and I've read these electric anode rods last much longer...so I decided to get one. I must say it's very well made. The threaded end is heavy, nicely machined and has what I'd call a black anodized finish. The rod itself has a bluish tint, but the bottom 3 inches or so is black. I am a little concerned about that discoloration, but I read another review that mentions it too. I haven't installed it yet, but once I do I'll update this review.

Solved my water heater hydrogen gas issueSolved my water heater hydrogen gas issue

[Size: 40-99 gallon, Size: 40-99 gallon]
This powered anode has been great so far. I have a Rheem water heater and it screwed in properly without any issues. My only complaint is that the top sticks out farther than I would like.I’m on well water, and my magnesium anode was producing hydrogen gas, foul-smelling water, and occasional brown water. After installing this powered anode, those problems stopped immediately. The hot water now smells noticeably clean and fresh. So far, I’m very happy with the performance. I just wish the portion above the tank had a lower-profile design.

Easy to install upgrade for your water heater's anode rodEasy to install upgrade for your water h...

[Size: 40-99 gallon, Size: 40-99 gallon]
I was overdue to remove and replace the anode in my water heater, so upgrading to this powered anode rod was the perfect opportunity to get this product. The construction of this product seems to be high quality and is made from a combination of stainless steel and titanium for the anode rod, so I would expect the durability to be quite good. The product description claims a lifetime of 20 years, which seems extremely impressive if true. The installation was pretty easy, assuming you are able to remove your old anode rod without too much difficulty due to its age or corrosion. You will need to have a socket wrench of the correct size to remove your old anode rod (you'll likely need a 1-1/16" or 1-3/16" sized socket). The package also comes with teflon tape to wrap the threads of the new anode before installing it.Be sure that you have a 110V electrical outlet nearby your water heater closet before purchasing this product. Even though the included power supply has a pretty long cord, I ended up having to make a hole in the drywall of my water heater closet to give a more direct route for the cord to my nearest outlet. For safety from possible electrical problems, you may also want to plug the power supply into a surge protector with overload protection.I haven't had any problems with rotten egg odors or unusual taste since installing this rod, however I have municipal water and not well water supply. One slight oddity is that the titanium anode seemed to be slightly discolored black on only the lowest 2-inches or so--hopefully that is only a cosmetic issue for me.Overall, this seems like a great value for a replacement anode rod that you should never need to replace again. This particular product seems to be functionally equivalent and priced lower than

Works on our 80-gallon hybrid heater

[Size: 40-99 gallon]
I was worried about compatibility with our hybrid heat pump water heater, but it fit perfectly. The universal fit for 40-99 gallon tanks is accurate. The rotten egg smell from our well water was completely gone within a day. No more buying replacement rods every few years.

Easy install, works as advertised

[Size: 40-99 gallon]
Took about 10 minutes to install with a socket wrench. The hex-head design made removing the old anode rod simple. The powered anode rod kicked in immediately – hot water smells clean now. No plumber needed, no plumbing modifications.

Finally, the rotten egg smell is gone

[Size: 40-99 gallon]
I've been dealing with that sulfur smell from our hot water for months. Tried flushing the tank, replacing the old rod, nothing worked. This titanium electric anode rod completely eliminated the odor within 24 hours. Best $28 I've spent on the water heater. Fits my 50-gallon gas unit perfectly.

Much better than sacrificial rods

[Size: 40-99 gallon]
The old magnesium rod in our heater was completely eaten away after 2 years. This electric anode rod replacement uses titanium and electrical current instead of dissolving, so it should last much longer. Great corrosion protection for the tank. Worth the upgrade.
