AM FM Radio Headphones for Mowing

I had to remind myself while evaluating these headphones that these headphones are not being marketed as high-end audiophile quality headphones or even average consumer headphones. They are primarily noise isolation headphones with mediocre audio quality. After installing three “AAA” alkaline battery cells (not included) I looked in the manual for information on how to adjust the headband to fit over my head; there was no mention of this in the three-page manual. I figured out how to do it but, when fully extended, the earpiece cushions barely fit over my ears.  If you have a small head, this won’t be a problem. They did attenuate outside noise very well but the audio quality from either the built-in radio, or an external MP3 player using the included cable with a 3.5mm plug on each end, was tinny sounding. No bass was heard and very little treble – mostly midrange audio frequencies.  Another issue was the supplied cable had to be partially pulled out of my MP3 player for the left and right channels to be heard separately rather than mono. The radio did seem to have good sensitivity and selectivity although stereo channel separation was minimal.  But, like I said at the beginning of this review, these are not marketed as headphones for serious audio listening. If sound quality is not as important to you as external noise isolation, then these will most likely be a good buy for you.

These hearing-protection headphones appear to be well-made. The radio works reasonably well. The sound quality is definitely as good as I need when mowing the lawn or operating other power machinery. We have limited radio stations in my area so I only had a few to listen to. The radio didn’t pull in as many stations as my car radio, but it did offer some choices. The station search feature works well but it only pauses for about one second on each station it finds. You either need to make a very quick decision to select the station, or wait until it appears again on the next go-around. The headphones fit securely on my head. I don’t think I will have any problems with them slipping off. In fact, they were initially too tight for me and became somewhat uncomfortable over time. I eventually decided to bend the headband a bit to expand it and that seemed to do the trick. The noise cancellation worked as well as others I have used and made a noticeable difference in the noise level. This device requires three AAA batteries (NOT included) The instructions mention that rechargeable powerbank may be purchased separately. Overall, I think this is a nice set of headphones with some nice features.

Used these at the range — gunfire is muffled perfectly, seal is tight. FM radio is clean and the digital display is easy to read. Eats batteries faster than I'd like, but still worth it.

Blocks out the saws and compressors no problem, ANSI certified so I trust it. The yellow color helps my crew spot me too. Radio makes long days way less boring.

30dB noise reduction actually works — I can mow for hours without my ears ringing. Radio picks up stations clearly and the presets are a nice touch. Grab some AAA batteries and you're good to go.
