This Goldblatt 18″ × 4″ wood-handle finishing trowel has a high quality spring-steel blade with cross-ground face and bevel-ground edges, which are provided shaped and ready to work. The aluminum mounting is light but solid, and the stainless rivets hold everything tight with no flex or play.The wood handle feels natural and balanced, and is comfortable for long sessions without excessive bulk. The trowel lays down a clean, consistent finish on concrete and plaster with minimal aggregate pop. It is easy to control on larger slabs and cleans up quickly.Basically, this is a simple well-made tool that works as intended, and is good value for the money. Would buy again.

One sentence review: Exceptional handle and weight, rivets/welds lacking smoothnessExtended review: Trowel handle and weight is on point! The dimensions and curvature of the handle makes it not only easy to hold but extremely comfortable. Overall construction is surprisingly good given the cost. The downfall in my book would be the rivet/weld points on the Smooth underside are slightly depressed and uneven, would have rather seen the permanent spots ground down to a smooth finish, albeit with the edges smooth lines will not be left - Perhaps me being picky. Overall for the price the tool will work and at 14" it is the perfect size.

I've been using Goldblatt products for many years - scrapers, mudding knives, trowels- and recently ordered this 16"x4" finishing trowel to have on hand for larger projects. The blade is sufficiently stiff and the diameter and shape of the wooden handle is quite comfortable for larger hands.I recently put the towel to use on an unexpected project. A friend asked me to repair a poor job done under a small (16' diameter) pool they had installed; the prepared base had started to collapse in less than 1 week.I decided to use the finishing trowel in the last stage of forming a new level base which included pouring and leveling several inches of pool sand. The towel worked well to help smooth and "pack" the slightly wetted sand (despite not being a pool trowel) and remained comfortable in hand throughout the process.Slight update. A few days after writing this review, I noticed that the stainless-steel blade was rusting in multiple locations.

This trowel gets the job done and has great ergonomics, but it falls short of the premium quality its presented as. On the positive side, the wood handle feels comfortable and secure in the hand, connecting user technique and the wall even further. The compact size is also ideal for handling tight spaces, detail work; the edges are reasonably clean.The fit and finish leave a lot to be desired. The welds on the bottom of the blade are ginormous and unrefined, which stands out immediately. Additionally, the blade arrived with a decent amount of scratches on the surface near the edges. Even though you do not float with those specific parts of the blade and the main working edges are clean enough to avoid messing up your mud or concrete, it's still noticeable. Either way, It offers decent control and handling, but given the sloppy details and unfinished handle, it is overall just slightly better than okay.

This might be the best drywall trowel I've ever used. I normally buy more affordable options from local hardware stores for occasional mudding jobs, but this one immediately stands out. The welds are virtually invisible, and every edge is smoothly polished. It's beautifully made, something I never thought I'd say about a hand trowel.I chose the 14-inch version because it makes it easier to feather and level drywall compound than shorter trowels. I also found 14 inches to be about the ideal length for fitting comfortably in my mud pan. Much longer than that becomes harder to manage, or you'll need to use a smaller trowel to transfer compound from the pan while reserving the longer one for finishing the wall.I also like the material choices. The aluminum alloy mounting keeps the tool relatively lightweight for its size, while the spring steel blade provides the flexibility and durability you'd expect from a quality finishing trowel.The handle is unfinished wood, so I may apply a light coat of oil stain to help keep drywall mud from sticking as readily. Even as it comes, though, it's comfortable to hold and feels well balanced.If you're looking for a professional-quality drywall trowel that's built to last, this is an excellent option.

The 18-inch length is especially useful when trying to flatten and smooth larger areas because it covers more surface with each pass and helps reduce uneven marks.The wood handle is comfortable and has a more traditional feel than rubber or plastic grips. It is easy to control, and the riveted connection feels solid instead of loose or flimsy.This is not a tiny detail trowel, so it is better for broader finishing work than tight corners. For flatwork, patching, skim coating, plaster, and concrete finishing, it feels well made and performs nicely.
