This made swapping controller sticks so much easier. At least at the point of removing them. What I would love to see is something like this perception to actually remove. Once you get the joystick out it's kind of hard to align this correctly to get a joystick back in. Maybe if it had someone adjustable guide

This is kind of a one-trick pony, but if you're going to do one trick, it better be good... and this kit is very good.Game controller joysticks take on a lot of punishment. Buying a new controller whenever your joystick gets slow to respond and snap back is not always affordable nor desirable. Or if you want to upgrade the joystick, it's nearly impossible to get through removing the welds without damaging something or speaking colorful words.This kit steps in and inexpensively gives you a chance to repair your old friend back to better performance or upgrade the joystick by helping de-solder in a matter of moments. The quality of the parts included are very good, this isn't cheap junk stamped out of a sheet of pig steel.For the serious gamer who can handle a soldering iron, I recommend this kit.

Works well I just wish the fixture would stay tight on the tip. It tends to loosen up a little while you are using it.

If you ever need to desolder a joystick, then you want this tool. Even if you only use it a few times, it will pay for itself, with the time and frustration you save. Once the tip is hot, it only takes a few seconds to remove the joystick. You can also use this tip to install the joystick too, but it's a little tricky to get the holes lined up. Before I got this soldering iron tip, I would use a desoldering station, and then hit each joystick it with hot air to release it. And that would take about 5-10 minutes per joystick. However, this may not be an entirely fair comparison, because of the state of things after the joystick is removed. When I use a desoldering station, the joystick pins, and the holes in the PCB are mostly clean, and ready to install a new joystick. When using this soldering iron tip, you want to clean up, because the holes in the PCB will be filled with solder, and the pins of the joystick, will also have chunks of solder sticking to it (if you want to reuse it). But, you can also use the tip to install a new joystick, but you'll probably want to add flux, since you'll be reusing the solder. I'm also not sure if the joysticks use leaded or lead-free solder, so whatever it uses, is what you'll want to use. If they use lead-free, and you want to use leaded, then you'll want to clean out the old solder.A week before I got this soldering iron tip, I upgraded my friend's PS4 joystick, so the pain and frustration of removing a joystick is fresh in my mind. I couldn't wait to try out this soldering iron tip, and it blew my mind how well it worked. Without a doubt, if you replace joystick, get this soldering iron tip, if you want to make your life easier. It comes with both C245 (what I useed), and 936 adapter, so this should fit a vast majority of soldering irons out there. Using the C245, it was up to operating temp in about a minute. The tip has a lot of thermal mass, so it takes much longer than a regular tip, to heat up, but considering the size, I felt it heated up quickly. Also, the actual temp of the working surface, will lag the readout on your soldering station. When I can melt solder on it, then it's ready to use. I can, without a doubt, highly recommend this joystick soldering iron tip, if you need to replace joysticks.

I have been using this soldering tip setup for controller repair work and it has made joystick replacement jobs much smoother. It heats up quickly and holds temperature well, which helps when working on small and delicate solder points. Full disclosure; this desoldering tool was provided via the Vine program.I needed a desoldering tool to upgrade the drifting joysticks in my son's XBOX Series X controller; this kit was available through the Vine program and had adapters to fit the Clone 936 soldering irons I have as well as JBC Type 245/C245 irons, so I selected it. The kit arrived in a few days as usual from Amazon.After trying to assemble the unit, I discovered my new Ayoue/WEP 948D-III soldering/desoldering station that I wanted to use this tip with did not have the Clone 936 handle as I thought, but rather the newer design K917D handle which is different internally, and the brass slug adapter for the desoldering head does not fit. However, a few minutes with the calipers revealed that a 3/16" drill bit was the perfect size; a quick drill-out and I was in business.The purpose of this tool is to desolder all the pads of the joystick at once; trying to do them one at a time is not only time consuming, it is also almost impossible without damaging a via or three that just don't want to cooperate due to large copper mass in the PCB sucking away the heat. This big heavy head provides enough heat to overcome that, while keeping the dwell time low so you're not cooking the PCB to death with hot air or worse, accidentally desoldering surrounding components the size of a grain of salt.To keep dwell time as low as possible, I apply lots of rosin flux and preheat to approx 150°C; this means that you only have to apply the desoldering head for a few seconds and the old joystick just falls out by gravity... *PLOP!*With the old joystick out, it makes desoldering the holes quick & easy... all ready to solder in the new TMR joysticks.After that, I performed recalibration of the new sticks using the XBOX Accessories app, followed by a quick visit to hardwaretester.com which shows this controller is now better than it was new. I've never seen analog sticks down in the single digits like this. My son will be overjoyed.Pros:Turns job of replacing these joysticks from a big hassle with big chance of damaging the PCB into a quick & simple maintenance task.Complete kit comes with soldering handle adapters for very popular clone 936 irons AND JBC C245/T245 type handles, so more compatibility in this kit.Quality plated brass heating head, unlike some cheaper aluminum ones I've seen.Cons:Ummm... didn't cook me dinner afterwards? I really can't blame the kit for it not fitting at first; I'm the one who assumed I had a 936 handle on the soldering station I wanted to use it with. It did fit on my toolbag 936 iron without modification.
