The Jorgensen E-Z Hold 6-inch Aluminum Bar Clamps are a 2-pack of medium-duty quick clamps designed for woodworking, cabinet work, glue-ups, and general DIY projects. The standout feature is the 400 lb clamping force with a built-in load limit indicator, which makes them feel more controlled and more capable than basic lightweight clamps. I also like the aluminum handle because it gives them a sturdier, more serious feel without making them awkward to use.These are especially handy for one-handed clamping. The trigger action is smooth, and the clamps are easy to position while holding pieces in place, which matters a lot when you are working alone. The 6-inch size is great for smaller assemblies, edge work, repairs, jigs, and holding pieces steady while drilling, sanding, or fastening. They are not meant to replace large parallel clamps for big furniture glue-ups, but for everyday shop and home use, they are extremely practical.I also appreciate the versatility. Being able to switch from clamp to spreader mode is useful, and the expandable design is a clever bonus if you need more reach. The non-marring pads are important too, especially when working with finished surfaces or softer wood. They hold firmly without feeling like they are chewing up the project.Overall, these Jorgensen clamps feel well-made, reliable, and worth having around if you do woodworking or DIY projects. Cheap clamps can be frustrating because they flex, slip, or feel flimsy, but these feel like a nice step up. I would definitely keep these within reach for quick setups, small glue-ups, cabinet work, and general workshop tasks.

The most notable thing for me about these clamps is their ability to FIRMLY join into one clamp that expands over 18 inches. I've used linked clamps before by hooking the jaws, but it's never been a predictable fit and it leave the jaws misaligned. These non-mechanical portion of these are designed to link to each other allowing a predictable firm link expanding the size. The fit is tight to establish and remove, no slop at all.The tension release on these clamps is standard to most quick clamps, but differs from some of their other clamps. The steel releases do have a sleeve over them. It does make them more comfortable to use and easy to find with your fingers if you can't see them for whatever reason.They have a force measurement on them which allow me to repeat a load on soft woods without causing compression damage. I can't speak to the accuracy, but they seem to go to the same range when I squeeze them firmly. The measurement lines align to the arrow pointers a bit off-center, so the reading is at best a good idea when comparing them to each other.Less than perfect part: One arrived a bit beat up, but I'm not after show pieces and it didn't affect the function at all. However, one of the removable jaws was VERY difficult to get onto one of the bars to do the linking procedure. It fit fine on the other bar, and fine on the questionable bar in the single clamping position. The other jaw fit fine on either bar. After lots of swearing and palm of my hand encouragement, it finally went on far enough to latch the tab. It scratched up the bar a good bit in the process, but again, I'm not after a showroom finish.I thought I was going to have to contact them for a fix, but not the case. If anything, it's a little bit sloppy on the non-problematic bar now. The only thing I could see different on the bars was maybe the punch hole the tabs lock thru. On the non-issue bar, it appears centered and a one-attempt thing. On the bar that posed problems, it appears slightly off center and elongated in kind of a diagonal distortion. The scratches are also evident more so on the bar with the oblong hole. The pictures of the holes are the shiny logo side a of each, then the flip side of each.

As an avid wood worker, I use clamps daily, and when I need a clamp, I reach for a Jorgensen clamp. These E-Z Hold clamps with 400lbs of medium duty clamping pressure are possibly my new favs - here's why I highly recommend these clamps, as well as any clamp from Jorgensen, so much:Pros:- Jorgensen clamps, for me, deliver consistent quality and unparalleled strength when I need to clamp wood for glue ups. From small projects to large ones - I fully trust and use daily Jorgensen clamps. When they say these are heavy duty clamps, they are not at all exaggerating here.- The one handed operation of these E-Z clamps frees up your other hand for other duties - that alone justifies the cost. Just having a few of these E-Z clamps around for those tricky projects is a must.- I really, really like that these E-Z clamps have a little handy gauge to show you your clamping pressure - see my video to see this in action. This is beneficial as you should never over clamp, but just provide enough pressure to join the boards together.- I really like how smooth these clamps function - tightening them down is simple, and releasing that pressure is fairly easy once you get that down (squeeze handle for some pressure, pull de-tension trigger back, and then slide open the clamp). Again takes a little practice, but this is a single handed fluid quality clamp, so yea I'll take that all day.- I also LOVE how each of the clamp ends can be removed - again see my video to see this in action - so you can join two of these clamps together for larger projects. Again you just can't beat Jorgensen quality. This gives these clamps a next level of usability, and cuts down on our incessant need to buy clamps of various lengths.- You just cannot beat the quality and power of Jorgensen clamps, and did I mention value? Yes. Jorgensen clamps are often priced below competition, so that again makes these a go to clamp that I would highly recommend. If you're on the fence at all when it comes to Jorgensen, you're missing out big time.Cons:- There are zero cons associated with these clamps. Maybe not owning them could be a major con?

I've used inexpensive Harbor Freight clamps, Irwin clamps, and several types of plastic Jorgensen E-Z clamps in the past (light duty expandable, medium duty expandable). Of these, I find the medium-duty Jorgensen E-Z clamps to be my favorite. They don't slip like cheap clamps, don't flex as much as the Irwin clamps/light-duty Jorgensen E-Z clamps, and their linking feature can save you in a "pinch". I wanted to try these Platinum Series E-Z Hold clamps from Jorgensen to see how much stiffer they are compared to the medium duty plastic precision E-Z clamps I have.My first observation upon receiving these clamps is that they're noticeably heavier. They also release with a latch positioned where other brands typically place their clamp release levers. This placement has pros and cons. On the positive side, it's easier to release the clamps, but it also means you're more likely to accidentally bump and unclamp your project compared to standard Jorgensen E-Z Hold clamps.The clamp rail appears to be the same as those on the medium duty plastic precision Jorgensen clamps (not the light duty clamps, those are much thinner metal rails). Just like both the medium and light duty clamps, two of these can be locked together for extra clamping width. The jaws can also be flipped to serve as a spreader. This is possible without tools, but compared to the plastic Jorgensen E-Z clamps I have, it's a bit more difficult. A very firm bump with the palm of my hand was needed to install the arm on the rail. I'm guessing these will loosen up with time and won't remain an issue.Each clamp features a force scale ranging from 50 lb to 400 lb, with 50 lb increment marks. This scale would be useful if you need to document a process so other workers can maintain repeatable clamping pressure. I'm not sure how relevant that'll be for personal use.With one hand, I can clamp these to about 200 lb. Given the length and design of the handles, I think it would be extremely challenging to reach the 400 lb mark without a cheater bar or... another clamp.If you're curious about the dimensions of the 6" version, I roughly measured the following:- Overall length: 16 3/4"- Max clamping width (single unit): ~6 3/8"- Max clamping width (two units): ~18 1/2"- Max spreading: ~15 1/4"- Grip pad height: ~1 7/8"- Grip pad width: ~1 3/8"- Grip top to rail: 3 1/8"As expected, these are very stiff clamps whose jaws don't flex or cause wood pinch on one side. I did a comparison by using one Platinum Series clamp to squeeze two 1x2 boards together, then checking for gaps/wiggling the boards. I repeated the process with the plastic medium-duty precision E-Z Hold clamps and found that while they do seem to flex a little more, for the pressures I use to glue wood together, the difference is negligible. If it ever became an issue, I would just add another clamp to the other side of the workpiece. There is no question these are way more stiff than the light-duty E-Z clamp versionsAll in all, I think these are good clamps for the right person or application. If you're hard on your clamps or need a high guarantee that the clamp jaws stay parallel, these are worth it. For most of my uses I think these are overkill and will stick with the medium duty plastic precision E-Z version to save weight, cost, and minimize the chance of denting or scratching a workpiece with the metal body.
