18" F15T8 LED Replacement Bulb

Did a conversion on an old drafting lamp I found at an antique show. It was a perfect candidate since I had to borrow start contacts to repair the on/off contacts in the switch. They have a slight delay just like an old florescent wich makes it even cooler.

I got tired of my florescent bulbs going out so often to I bought these. My initial impression of them is great, the build quality is nice, they are adjustable, have 6 color adjustments and have an aluminum back which I think acts as a heatsink. I tested them with and without a ballast and they worked great. If I had a complaint it would be that they are very bright and there is no way to dim them, you can rotate it rotate it in such a way where the bulb is partially covered but dimming would still be preferable.

The lights function as stated. The time to charge each units is around fifty minutes. One of the packages was missing a remote control.

THE FEATURES:Genuinely good design. The rotatable end cap -- a 180° forward-rotation mechanism -- lets you adjust the beam angle after installation, which is especially useful for under-cabinet lighting where you want the light directed at the work surface rather than the ceiling. The color temperature selector covers 3000K through 6500K in six steps, all switchable without removing the tube. Type A+B installation means you can drop these into an existing T8 fixture with the ballast still in place, or wire ballast-bypass -- one of the few products that makes upgrading to LED genuinely painless.THE WATTAGE QUESTION:Wattage is not printed on the bulb itself. The label shows 100-277V, 0.06A. At 120V that works out to roughly 7W -- consistent with the 7W claim in the product title. The 15W figure that appears elsewhere in the listing likely refers to the fluorescent tube being replaced, not the LED itself (maybe?)THE LABEL DETAIL:The color temperature slide switch is laser-etched on the aluminum housing in a small font. Tough to read with the naked eye, but clearly visible in a close-up photo.THE PROBLEM:One of the two bulbs worked fine for approximately 30 seconds and then failed without warning -- no flicker, no heat, just dead. I swapped the two bulbs between fixtures, rotated the end caps, tried all of the color settings. The working bulb continues to function in both fixtures; the failed bulb doesn't work in either. No user error involved. Since these are sold as a pair and the fixture requires two matched bulbs, the single working bulb isn't usable on its own to me ... so, back to fluorescents.BOTTOM LINE:The design is legitimately smart and the features are genuinely useful. But a 50% failure rate out of the box -- on first use -- is a reliability problem that warrants three stars. If the build quality matched the concept, this would be a five-star product.

I got this pair of 18" T8 tube bulbs to replace the fluorescents under cabinets in my kitchen. The lights are much brighter than what they replaced and are without the flicker and hum of the decades old originals. They did take a bit of time to replace as I needed to (figure out how to )remove the fixtures, cut out the old transformers and starters, remove old wiring with cracked, brittle insulation, replace the old wiring and connect to the switch and wall wiring. The bulbs could have been simply installed as a direct replacement for the original bulbs but removing the starter and transformer/ballast made for a more efficient use of the bulb.Although the 7 watt rating of these bulbs is less than half the 15 watt originals, the dollar value of the savings is not tremendous for the two bulbs as they are secondary illumination and not on very long -- but their efficiency and lumen efficacy of 135 watts per lumens, or 1,050 lumens is very good.On the aluminum back of the frosted bulb is a switch to select the output color from 3,000K to 6,500 K.The printed user manual provides a guide for wiring when the ballast is removed which may not be comfortable for one with no experience turning off a circuit, cutting and removing insulation from wire leads, and getting wire connectors to reconnect wires bypassing the ballast (and starter, if applicable). But that's the best way to gain the efficiency of the bulbs.Once these bulbs are installed, you'll likely never have to replace them given their advertised 50,000 hour rating. The seller suggests they have a 5 year warranty. Since I selected them a week ago, the selling price was reduced from $31.99. I've bought 4-foot tubes that also have the selectable K-color switch that are less expensive than these 18-inch tubes.The connections worked and the bulbs are perfectly bright and no longer flicker. Once installed, the bulb is able to be rotated to direct the illumination more to the back wall, straight down, or forward. They work fine and are of good quality.

The electrical safety certifications are provided by third party electrical product safety testing laboratories that are independent from the manufacturer.- The FCC label IS NOT a certification of independent laboratory electrical safety testing.
